This is becoming the feel-good story of the season. Several years ago we watched this promising pitcher have an inexplicable meltdown and never figured it out. Now he is back in the majors as an outfielder after belting 32 minor league homers. All he does is jack three homers in his first three games. Here's hoping that he can keep on keeping on.

    Movie Deal?

I feel another sports movie coming on. The screen writers are licking their chops and have probably already picked a title and started the movie trailer (sp).

I wander who will play the lead?
Mark Wahlburg? Nah, not tall enough!
    Co-star- Kate Hudson

This is a great story! I would like to hear more.

    Ankiel Card

Many years ago, I pulled an autographed Ankiel rookie card out of a pack of Topps cards. At that time, I had high hopes that it would be the gem in my modest card collection. As I watched Mr. Ankiel meltdown during his fabled season of destruction, I lost all hope for that card. As of last week, that card is starting to "shine" again.

Here's my question: IF he is able to make a successful sustained comeback, do you think his orginal rookie card as a pitcher will be more coveted or do you think it will be his "re-born" rookie card as an outfielder in 2007?

In the long run, the older card will definitely be worth more than the "new" OF card. Everyone and his brother who collects will have the new card if he keeps hitting, but how many people held onto the rookie card after he melted down? If he turns into a superstar hitter, you might have a very valuable card on your hands.

Nah...you're original rookie card will not be worth much. I would suggest that you trade 'em..........to me :laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4:

    Something Good

As an die-hard and long time "redbirdfan" (hence my TBR name), the Cardinals could certainly use something good these days. They have certainly had a rough go of it over the last few months, with alot of it coming from "bad judgement" issues on behalf of Cardinal personnel. Having followed Ankiel from his stellar beginning to the "struggling so much it was truly painful to watch" stage, this has truly been a bright spot for us Cardinal fans. Here's to hoping it last for a while!

I guess we caught him on a bad day. At the time, he was with the Johnson City Cardinals. We were there for opening ceremonies for an AAU National tournament. When my son asked him for an autograph, he declined and then said the Rick Ankiel wasn't even there......:disappointed:

Quite a turn around for him....

Kudos to you for realizing a guy can have a bad day. A lot of people would have hated the guy for that incident.
