    Good question...

Defending a curve back in the box, should give the hitter more time to recognize the spin, and where the pitch was called. A curve thrown in on a RH batter, should finish on the inside part of the plate, right on the primary hitting slot. Batter should always look in, and protect away.

A curveball throw to the outside corner, is gonna move 3 more feet before it is caught by the catcher. Is an Ump gonna call a strike on a pitch that the catcher had to reach across her body to call?

Moving a batter back to the the chalk changes a 40 foot pitching distance
to 43. At 43 feet, it changes it to the men's distance, 46 feet.

Hope this helps with your question...

Lisa F. was saying last night on the college world series that if you're having problems with speed get back in the box. If you're having problems with the breaking balls get in the front to take away the angles. Just for thought.

Lisa is referring to east and west breaking pitches...( Curve / Screw ).
north / south ( ie Rise / Drop ) should be in the back of the box.
