    Burns up 14-0 in the 4th quarter, Hickory rallies to tie, but the Bulldogs get to the Hickory 2 with 2 seconds to go! ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS KICK A FIELD GOAL EQUIVALENT TO AN EXTRA POINT AND THEY HAVE IT IN THE BAG! But NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! The Bulldogs TOOK A KNEE thinking it would stop the clock and Burns went on to lose in several overtimes. l:mad: I was so pissed I didn't catch the final score on Football Friday night and Northcarolinaihigh.com is all screwed up. I already mentioned this in the score thread but I just thought this horrible brain lapse by my alma mater the Burns Bulldogs deserved its own thread.

    I was not at the Burns/Hickory game tonight, but I did just see it on FFN. And by the way the highlights were shown, it looked to me that the QB made a HUGE mental mistake and took a knee instead of spiking the ball. Again I wasn't there, but that was how it came across on the Highlight Show.

    The Burns players were absolutely exhausted by the end of the game. Ya'll can pick apart the Bulldogs if you must, but ya'll are gonna have to give props to my Tornadoes. Not just for pulling it out but for being a very good team. PERIOD.

    No doubt, the Red Tornadoes beat a good Burns Bulldogs squad, and in result took away a possible Crest/Burns Conference Title game. Now if Burns can beat Crest, I believe that would be a 3 way tie for the SW Foothills 3A Championship?

    Crest had a player a few years ago that took a knee at the end of a game thinking it would stop the clock. Looks like the same thing happened to Burns last night.

    To the Hickory fan, this is in no way to take away from the way you guys played. And to clarify, according to the Shelby Star, there was "miscommunication between the sidelines and the quarterback." Burns actually had 17 seconds to try but they let all the time run off the clock. Final score was 31-24. The title of this thread should actually be "What was Travis Withrow thinking." Final score was 31-24 in 3OT's, and again, I'm not trying to say the win by the Tornadoes was a fluke.

    Burns has done crazy stuff like this before. I remember a couple of years ago when they played the Crest JV's they tried to spike the ball late in the game on 4th down. Crest just took the ball and ran out the clock.

    Yeah they did spike the ball on 4th down But the crest Chain gang didn't flip it to 4th down so the qb thought it was 3rd down.
