Every Post has a select few fans who may be rude and show some bad sportsmanship but NEVER, and I mean NEVER have I saw a collection of them as numerous as at Charlotte. The Burke/Charlotte series was an example of how bad the sportsmanship was. This was evident when Charlotte took a lead at Myers Park after trailing 10-3 in game #3. (By the way game #3 wasnt the only bad game but just the WORSE.)

Charlotte had every reason to celebrate after one of their players hit a GRAND SLAM homerun to pull Charlotte to within 2. But it was uncalled for showed a lack of taste when some fan took it upon himself to "prance" through the visitors stands with his hands threw up into the air yelling at the top of his lungs "Hell Yeah" "Hell Yeah". There are young children at the games as well as many other people who just dont like to hear the language.

Charlotte made a great comeback and won huge but to me that was marred by the fans taunting and rudeness to the Burke fans, the players and the umpires. They took some of the glory from their boys. I wont remember Chralotte for having GREAT players, I will remember them for having the rudest fans on the Legion circuit.

Every single team has a few fans that definitely go overboard with their loud obnoxious yelling,,,,,,,, its important to not judge a whole team based on a few idiots in the stands, because trust me we all got em. The high school that my 2 sons played at has a storied successful football tradition, but during the years that my boys were playing HS football, it sickened me to hear some of our fans in the stands yell at our own coaches if we had to so much as punt one time. Some fans are just terrible and should be charged double at the gate, but that don't mean everyone associated with that certain team is a jerk too.

I've noticed that sometimes it runs in cycles, depending on the set of parents. All it takes is a couple of big mouths who won't let up...riding the umps & cheering 'against' the opposition instead of 'for' their team.

And the next thing you know, there's a range war going on.

I want to add a quick addendum:

I have a problem with the new tradition of riding kids by name in other sports. Particularly in basketball where the fans are on top of the players, caustic insults & personalized attacks ae considered part of the game. Duke fans are glamorized by Dookie V for their enthusiasm...all the while ignoring the breech of sportsmanship.

It's just wrong. The game should not be decided by whose fans can best get under the skin of the opposition.

Whether I was playing, coaching or umping,,,,, loud obnoxious fans never bothered me. But when it started bothering me is the last few years (as a fan) you see some little grandmaw who's just out there wanting to enjoy an evening watching her grandson and some loud jerk near her is making her feel uncomfortable with some of the things he's saying and how he's acting. Some may feel that by paying admission it gives you the right to yell certain things, but I dont' think it gives you the right to make other folks feel uncomfortable to the point they don't enjoy the game. And I feel this way whether its opponents fans or ours.

TJ, that's especially true if that loud mouth jerk is taking shots at Grandma's grandson. Fan decorum used to be: cheer for your team. It was considered 'bush' to call players out by name & personally insult them.

Oh for the good old days. (Were they really that good or am I showing my mileage?)

I agree that a kid should not be singled out by name ever, but let me say that it really makes it interesting when you have a really good, close ballgame going on and the fans are really getting fired up and excited with alot riding on the outcome of the game. I've had countless ballplayers come to me after a game and tell me what a lift it was when the fans got fired up, it fired the team up....say what you want to but it makes a difference to the players whether it is for them or against them.. Caldwell sometimes play's off their fans...it makes a huge difference in the right situation. Believe it or not Caldwell is calm compared to the fans of the past. I've not gone anywhere in North Carolina that can match the fan support that Caldwell County has, they come in numbers and they can be loud if the right situation calls for it. Don't get me wrong, other teams have good fan support but Caldwell has a following that has been strong in legion baseball for alot of years. I guess what I'm trying to say is when a person comes out to a ballgame it is their right to cheer, to scream, to sit quitely or how ever you want to enjoy the game ( leave the cussing out of course ) its each persons right to enjoy, after all we have legionares who sponsor this league who have fought and died to give you that right. Just because a person reacts different when a home run is hit does not make him a idiot, I do agree with Mom the guy in Charlotte should not have run through their stands cheering, that could be dangerous in the wrong crowd...I'll shut up now...got to get back to work

Carolina Man,,, as I stated, as a former player, we all like to have the crowd into the game. And your right, Caldwell has one of the most loyal followings around and I personally like that. I find absolutely nothing wrong with a crowd being "in the game".

But I do think its wrong when a fan (or small handful of fans) finds it necessary to yell negative stuff and they get so bad that they make others around them uncomfortable where they don't enjoy the game.
