Can someone please give some kind of rulings on what pitchers can do and not as far as getting relief before she pitches (example if she goes to her mouth, or goes to the dirt or a resin bag or even something that is in Pitchers back pocket) I was always told that the ruling was you had to wipe off before going to the ball. I know High School ball is always different but there should be a ruling on this somewhere. I keep seeing it being called different everywhere and it shouldn't be that way. Should be the same for all pitchers.

    Hands must be wiped off.
(I dont think you can legally keep anything in your back pocket, even a resin bag.)

It's always been my understanding that any pitchers ,being it licking their fingers ,grabbing dirt , or whatever has to rub/wipe it off before pitching. We've even been involved in one tournament that ,while hitting, the batter wasn't allowed to use any chalk from the foul line...go figure.

The rule is against applying a foreign substance to the ball. Thus whenever you lick or use rosin, whatever, you need to get if off your hands before touching the ball (unless you can prove to the umpire that it won't come off your fingers. Good luck with that).

Stickly speaking, you're not even supposed to take a newly unwrapped ball and deliberately rub it in the dirt... dirt's a foreign substance.

....why is it acceptable for a pitcher to have her index finger taped or have a bandaid on her pitching hand?

I saw this in a college game and the "wrap" was noticable from the stands so it wasn't "flesh" colored.

    Can it help the pitcher,

or, Does it adversely affect the pitcher

    or, Niether?

If I was the ump or the opposing coach I think I might take issue with that. As the ump, at the very least I would want to see what the bandaid was covering. I would then be looking for unusually good movement if I let it ride.

....I know the pitcher well and she does not need any help in the circle. I'm just curious why a bandaid would be ok?

My daughter tried to wear a bandaid (Same color as skin) a couple times already this year and was told by the umpire to take it off. She had a bleeding blister that she's had alot of problems with. It has affected her pitching she hasn't been able to spin the ball as good.

I would just like to get a ruling on what I said in earlier post. I've even talk to a couple of umpires and they couldn't tell me (Thats pretty bad).

    Umpires

even if you go to the back pocket?

We actually had a umpire in a game that said we were crazy. I would like to see it in the rule book (if there is a High School rule book) I've never seen one.
