    1. How many innings must a starting pitcher complete in HS or College to be granted the win?

    2. In the following example, how many games behind A are B & C respectively?

    A- 24-11
    B- 20-15
    C- 19-14

Not true. Five in the pros but certainly not in HS and I think the colleges don't have the same rule.

Guys, I'll stick to my guns, unless one of you can show me where its in writing that I'm wrong, and it should be easy to look up, I just don't have the time. I still say a starter must go 5 to get the win, UNLESS the game is shortened by mercy rule, then the starter is only required to go 4.

The colleges use the same rules as the pros. Also, as in the pros, there is no mercy rule in the college game.

Hey TJ, I have seen it in writing before and as soon as I can track it down, I will post you back. But I know I've seen that a starter has to go atleast half the game to get the win. That would be 4 innings in a 7 inning game and 3 innings in a shortened game.

And since you and I are Legion guys, its 5 innings for a full legion game and 4 for a 7 inning (DH or Mercy rule or whatever).

    UNC box

Here is part of the box score for UNC yesterday... Warren gets the win, going 3 innings as the starter.... I did note that in the recap on the UNC website, it said the following:

In his first career start, freshman righty Adam Warren (1-0) earned the win in a predetermined staff outing. He went three innings, struck out two and allowed two runs on five hits and two walks. Sophomore Tyler Trice came on to start the fourth and tossed two shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks. Freshman left-hander Brian Farrell fanned two in a scoreless sixth, as did sophomore righty Rob Wooten in the seventh. Freshman lefty Matt Cox went the final two innings and retired six of the seven batters he faced with three strikeouts.

Is "predetermined staff outing" the reason an effective relief pitcher did not get the win?

North Carolina IP H R ER BB SO AB BF NP
    --------------------------------------------------
    Adam Warren......... 3.0 5 2 2 2 2 14 16 57
    Tyler Trice......... 2.0 2 0 0 2 1 7 9 34
    Brian Farrell....... 1.0 0 0 0 1 2 3 4 19
    Rob Wooten.......... 1.0 1 0 0 1 2 4 5 22
    Matt Cox............ 2.0 1 0 0 0 3 7 7 29

    Win - Warren, A (1-0). Loss - Johnson (1-1). Save - None.
