Was watching the ASU/FL game. In the first inning ASU had a runner on second. Batter hits a shot up the middle. SS goes for the ball but runner from second runs into her. However, it looked like the ball was already by the SS and there was no way she was going to get to it. Is it still runner interference by rule or is it a judgement call? I thought it was clearly a hit...

This is a had to be there situation, but if the contact happened after the ball passed F6, then it would not be interference, but it could possibly be obstruction on F6.

Judgement in this play would be where the ball is in relation to the time of "Interference" or "Obstruction".

The runner was called out for interference. The ASU coach went out to talk about it but nothing was changed. I think the ss was trying to make a play on the ball. The runner was looking at the ball trying not to get hit by the ball and didn't see the ss and ran into her.
