excellent point. it begs the question: why didn't Slappy just hit the ball through the hole and into the outfield for a clean single. Girl on second winds up at third or comes around to score and Sloopy gets a hit and maybe an RBI to boot; shortstop avoids the embarrassment of bobbling an easy grounder and her fielding percentage doesn't suffer. Most of all, the parents of Slappy don't have to come onto a message board to try to get complete strangers to support their belief that it was, in fact a base hit. But what about the pitcher (we'll call her Thunderthighs Trimble)? If Slacky is credited with a hit and a run scores, it is earned (unless the girl — we'll call her Jumbo Jones — who scored on Slippery's hit had reached on an error) and Thunderthighs' ERA will be negatively impacted.

    go with catcher interference.
