I didn't attend Sunday, but was there all day Saturday. Many good teams in 16 & 18. I didn't see as many college scouts as you would expect in a showcase tournament. Since this was a drop dead tournament with a 1hr. 15min. time limit, most of the games didn't go the distance of 7 innings. Several games ended in a tie. I don't recall seeing a game that went the full seven innings. Some of the teams that I thought would win were losing when time expired. Due to the format I don't think it would be fair to post scores of games not completed. All in all......... good showcase............ lots of talent............. not ideal weather for fans........... not very many college scouts.

When is the NSA going to get any love from the colleges. I keep hearing that ASA is the place to go. Also hear that NSA teams are watered down. I personally see great players in the NSA tourns. just like there are great players in the ASA. Always on any team in any tournament there are better players than some. But if you call NSA watered down and the only place to get seen is ASA then what is going to happen when your so called watered down teams flock to the ASA tourns. Does that mean that abra-cadabra they are now competitive teams. Or does that mean that the ASA tourns will be watered down. Salisbury showcase offered a chance for colleges to see limited number of teams instead of more than a hundred teams and they chose not to come. Don't figure!! And if ASA is the place to go when are they going to sanction tourns. in areas other than out of state. Just wondering and hoping to see the players get a chance to be seen.

I would not say that the teams in the NSA tournament were watered down nor are the teams that play NSA considered weak teams. I agree that the tournaments with the greatest potential to be seen are ASA tournaments. Most college coaches are going to the big tournaments during the summer which usually are ASA. If a tournament in the fall is close by the school, then college coaches will go see those teams as well. But, what we keep missing most in all this is the fact that you have to promote your players. They have to be in constant email contact with the colleges that they would like to attend be it playing softball or academics or even both. If a college coach is interested in a player and that player makes it known to the college coach what tournaments they are playing in this will have the greatest effect. :xyzthumbs

I should have known you were there....You don't miss many. How you been doing comet? You coming down to spartanburg on saturday? I guess the better question would be what would stop you...right? 1 hour 15 minutes give the colleges enough time to evaluate the talent on the field. Its not about winning or losing but showcasing your players. Drop dead can be interesting at best. Sure changes how you coach in the waning minutes. I am glad that NSA and NSR have teamed up to put on these events. They will get bigger as time goes along. :applause:

Well said Enka What it boils down to is that College recruiters come to see a certain player or two at most tournaments or "showcases". They do watch some games while they are there and may give a look at a standout player. But for the most part they come to look at girls that have either contacted the college themselves or through either their High School or travel coach.

The Carolina Cobras played in the 16u.This was their 1st showcase,as they are a young team with 6 freshman,& 4 eighth graders. This was to just get their feet wet in the showcase format. They went 4-0 with scores as follows:

    Cobras 7
    Challengers 2

    Cobras 10
    Bandits 0

    Cobras 5
    Lady Blues 3

    Cobras 7
    Knights 1

I would like to have seen the game times a little longer,& was disappointed at the amount of colleges that were there.Could it have been the timing of the Tour, are some schools still playing their fall schedules? The Cobras had a blast,& the girls were really hitting the ball, from top to bottom in the line up.I would like to commend the NSA officiating ,it was the best I have seen all year.Too bad it couldn't have been this good all year.HISPEED,as for ASA santioned tours in this state, there could be a major announcement in the near future. Will try to keep everyone informed as details unfold.GO COBRAS!!!!
