    Defensive play of the game

In the top of the fifth inning, the lead off Hoggard batter is on base with a double and moves to third on a steal and we now have one out. The score is 2-0 Sanderson at this point and Hoggard has all of three hits in the game up to this point. Their #8 hitter is at the plate and tries a suicide squeeze. The runner is charging in from third base but the bunt is hit straight back to our pitcher Mark Peterson (UNCG). Junior catcher Max Gagnon pops up, prepares for the collision and the throw from Peterson, who tosses the ball to Gagnon. The runner gave up and did not even slid. Out #2 and I feel this took the wind out of their sails for the night. Lights out. Instead of 2-1 and one out it is now 2-0 and two outs. The finals score was 2-0 and that was against a Hoggard team that was averaging over 11 runs in the first three rounds. The Spartans are for real.

    Petey's pitching line

Sanderson's Mark Peteson (5-2) was on.

Pitched 7 innings, faced 25 batters, no walks, one hit batter, ten strikeouts. Only allowed three hits and there were ZERO runs scored. Behind every great pitcher is a great team defense. No errors in the field.

What a great birthday present for his Dad!

Is Charles Wolfe pitching game 1 for Sanderson? I have not seen him pitch this year. What should I look for?

Wolfe on the hill vs Rose

Junior Charles Wolfe (8-1) is calm and steady on the hill. He and his catcher, Max Gagnon, have been battery mates through the AAU Raleigh Redwings, middle school and now high school (6 years). They know each well and what pitches to throw. Both are cerebal on the field.

Wolfe has already thrown one shut out in the playoffs vs a good Durham Jordan team and only had one unearned run vs Garner in the first round.

Should be a great game to watch.

I have seen Wolfe, then, because I was at the Garner game. He is very good and throws pretty hard. He stayed calm and kept his composure late in that game when Garner threatened with baserunners.
