After careful consideration Sarah Mooney, a junior this year (2011 graduate of North Meck HS), has decided to give her verbal commitment to James Madison University. JMU is a NCAA Division I University in the Colonial Athletic Association. Fellow conference schools include Georgia State University, George Mason, UNC Wilmington, Drexel, Delaware and more.

Sarah has been consistently hitting in our power slots (third and fourth) this last year and a half while also doing the majority of her defense behind the plate. Sarah spends some time on the mound pitching and can also play the corners. Sarah is known to many of you as "Boomer," but behind the intimidating hitter at the plate is a young lady with a heart of gold. The Mooney's are a fun loving group with an incredible work ethic. Boomer hits on her own at least 3-4 times a week seeing an additional 200-300 live pitches extra a week outside of practice. She is a true talent, but she definitely works very hard at her craft. Boomer has done a great job behind the plate and on the mound for us this year and will continue that trend in college.

Boomer's academic plans are to study Nursing and if anyone can pull such a demanding major off while competing in Division I it is Sarah. Do not ever tell her she cannot do something because she will find a way to prove you wrong.
Her academics are extremely important to her which is obvious when you look at the types of schools that have pursued Sarah and ultimately where she will spend her college career.

Congratulations to the Mooney Family. Donna and Will are awesome people and have a wonderful young woman to show for their efforts.

    Way to go Boomer!

I have admired this kids competitive desire since she was 10 years old. There is nobody more deserving and JMU got a good one without a doubt.

    Congrats Sarah, Will and Donna!!!!!
