Talk about "downeast dominance" if NL and Conley join Farmville Central as State Champs!

    (Final Game) S.Alamance 10 NW Cabarrus 0

It was a nightmare scenario for the Trojans in thier final 2005 game. After jumping on Southern Alamance with 4 runs in the first inning of Game 2, NWC cruised to a 5-1 win behind the 3-hit, 0 ER pitching of senior Nick Daniels.

Unfortunately, Game 3 saw the wheels fall off for the Trojans. Robby Gurley who came through big in championship games for the Trojans all year (Providence, Hickory) faced only 4 batters and did not retire a single hitter (he spent a lot of time in the bullpen trying to get his arm loose but to no avail). After walking 3 and allowing a single to drop in by Brent Haynes,Gurley left the game down 1-0 and the bases loaded. Top NWC reliver Joe Kent (who pitched a scoreless 7th in Game 1) then entered the game and gave up 3 straight Patriot hits. With 2 outs, down 8-0, Joe Hubbard went with his 3rd pitcher, Drew Finney, who had just been called up from JVs who finally ended the inning. Finney, who did an admirable job under the circumstances, piched well until allowing the first 2 to reach in the 3rd and then giving up an RBI single to make it 9-0. The Trojans got out of the jam this time with great relief pitching from Justin Wallace. S.Alamance then got to Wallace in the 5th, scoring the winning run on a slow roller to 1st. FINAL 10-0 in 5 innings. The Trojans' worst defeat all year.

NW Cabarrus had a great year but this one was a tough defeat.

Congrats to S.Alamance and the runner-up Trojans.

Good Luck to seniors Nick Daniels (a fantastic come-back this year), Blake Ketner (get it done at Catawba), Justin Rodriguez (nice 2B in the gap tonight, good luck at Wake Forest!!!!), Chase Hodge (will be a great coach someday if he so chooses), and Hunter Huie (a no doubt NCAA wrestler)

PS - Boxman, it was nice meeting you. Keep up the good work!!!!
