Hi,



I have emailed many of you over the last few weeks about the pending CMS decision to end middle school sports. Since then, there has been a grass roots effort to develop a plan to save our sports program. I am helping to spread the word about the SAVE MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS meeting that is happening on Tues, March 29th at 7p at Christ Lutheran Church.



It would be GREATLY appreciated if you could forward the email below (from one of the organizers, Tripp Roakes) to as many CMS parents as possible. Our hope is that we can get this email distributed to entire middle school PTSAs and Athletic Booster Clubs through mass emails from their respective board members.



We would also like to pass the information to elementary and high schools, so if you have any contacts at those levels, please pass this info onto them as well.



If this email came to you by mistake, but you know how to reach a PTSA or Athletic Booster Club board member at your middle school, please forward this message and help us save our childrens' school sports program.



Students who play team school sports show improved academic performance, are healthier, have more community involvement, are less likely to use drugs or commit crimes, and more likely to participate in community organizations and volunteer work. This is critically important to our schools, our education system and our community.



There is also a flyer attached to this email that can be printed and distributed/posted about the meeting. Anything you can do to help us publicize this meeting would be greatly appreciated. And please, bring your student with your family and attend this meeting.

I want to invite your entire family to the SAVE MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS meeting on Tuesday March 29 at 7:00pm at Christ Lutheran Church located at 4519 Providence Road in Charlotte. As many of you are aware, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has announced plans to end middle school sports for the 2011-2012 season due to budget cuts. I have stepped forward to lead a grassroots movement to restore middle school sports with a sustainable funding program. On Tuesday night, I will provide information on the past, present and future of middle school sports. I will share funding options, ideas to improve and expand the program and the role that your family can provide to the success of future programs.



We need your help on Tuesday night. It is vital that if you have children in middle school sports or children that plan to participate in the next few years that you join me in the effort to save the program. We need to show our community the importance of middle school sports and how we will all step up to provide the support needed for success. To reach our goals it will take everyone stepping forward for the future. I need to see you at the meeting.





Parents and Student-Athletes are urged to attend. Please wear your school colors and show your spirit and support for the effort to SAVE MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS.

Thanks for posting,, I have given this effort my all the last couple of months. Tuesday night is huge, we need all middle school families in the building to leave a lasting impression. Every media outlet in Charlotte will be there.

this has been quite an experience, but to have the success we need, I have to have your help. Please dont sit back and hope that others show up.
