SCBL to hold annual all-star game at Gardner-Webb university
The Southern Collegiate Baseball League (SCBL) has announced that they will hold their annual All-Star Game at John Henry Moss Stadium at Gardner-Webb University on Sunday July 22, 2012. “Gardner-Webb’s new stadium is the perfect venue for our All-Star festivities,” said a SCBL Representative. “Not only are the facilities top of the line, but the centralized location combined with the wonderful baseball fans in the greater Shelby area provide the makings of a tremendous event for all of our players and the MLB scouts.” 46 players from Colleges and Universities all over the east coast, including potential players from Gardner-Webb, will showcase their skills for many MLB scouts as well as participate in a home run derby prior to playing in the game itself.

The day is slated to begin around 2pm with the home run derby kicking off the fan activities at 4pm followed by the game just after 7 pm. Concessions will be available through-out the day.

“We want to thank Coach Stroupe and the wonderful staff at Gardner-Webb for working with us to bring this event to such a great facility.” Said the SCBL
    .
Gates will open at 1:30 for those wishing to watch the pro-style workout for the scouts.

    Home Run Derby

It was a great day for the All-Star game with a lot of talent on the field and plenty of scouts in the stands. The Home Run derby was like watching the MLB derby with the players coming to the rescue of the batters with rags and gatorade. The most exciting part was watching the final two contestants having to go an extra round to see who would come out on top. Congratulations to Daniel Whitecavage LKN Copperheads, St. Andrews college on his victory. It was quite a show.

    GW a nice location

Great location, crowd, well run, nice t-shirts even.

Had to leave in the 6th. I heard Bradley Carpenter (Montreat) was awarded a pitching award? His inning was very efficient; couple of swing through strikes and 3 ground balls. (can someone elaborate on the pitching award(s)? Assuming north and south got awards?

Also heard someone threw gas toward the end. anyone have details?

There was only one pitching award and the MVP was split with two players, Henry Rundio was one and I can't remember who the other player was.

Saw some serious bombs over the scoreboard and the locker room. I was worried after the pro workout as to whether anybody would get the ball out in the derby but that was no problem. Great show.

Bradley Morton and Henry Rundio were co-MVP's.
One MVP pitcher and it was Carpenter.

Matt High threw the 8th inning and he does throw gas.

The bombs were very impressive and lots of credit given for the power that young man has, but to see the stamina that Daniel Whitecavage had to come back in the 5th round was just as impressive. I think the contestants had a good time all around.

Agreed, Whitecavage is gutsy player who does'nt ever seem to give an inch along with being a very talented hitter. All the guys put on a very impressive show and the finals were a lot of fun fo watch.
