    Good and Bad

I experienced both good and bad with the opening of Ardrey Kell. I can only speak for myself and not for the coach at Providence or Weddington. Freedom Sball if you would like to discuss this further you can send me a PM.

i would like to add... I know of a situation where three students transferred from a program (not FP) because it had won 14 games in the past 3 years (there is more but I will not get into that). It hit the pocket books and as a result there may be some changes in the offing. Is that a bad thing?

IMO, and "opinion" is the key, there should be no limitations to transfers and no penalties for doing so. Yes, there will be times when people abuse the "freedom" for selfish reasons...and there are examples of that today. However, in general, transferring is a REAL PAIN for the kids and families....and it usually applies to parents' job transfers, as opposed to people seeking athletic advantages.

Parents that transfer for athletic advantages are basically attempting to legally cheat the system. They set a bad example for the families around them and especially for the children that they are attempting to help. Those types of parents are strangely motivated and need to be left alone to do as they please. In the end, they usually get what they deserve...both good and bad. Cheaters never win....and more importantly....true winners never cheat!!!

In short, don't penalize the kids for transferring....its probably not their idea anyway. Let them play sports as soon as they walk into the new school!

    Transfers

My high school coach was a tremendous influence on my learning the game. With that being said, here is a scenario of when I would fully support a transfer:

1.) If my daughter had a goal to play on the next level, OR MORE IMPORTANTLY
2.) If my daughter wanted to teach and coach on the next level, and
3.) If my daughter was playing for a coach that was not expanding her knowledge of the game or the skills of her and her teammates due to ineptitude

I would 100% support a transfer to a school with a coach that can be an influence on her beyond high school.

If you move in to a school district, it's not considered a Transfer, at least not in Gaston County, that's perfectly legal. If other districts are talking about making it a law even if you move, that is DEFINATELy wrong, but I don't think they can do that for the reasons that you stated, i.e. job related move.

Gaston County already does the ineligible for a year penalty if you Transfer. Which is going to a school out of your district. I like the rule, even though it's affected kids I've coached (not in softball btw).

There are many, many factors to consider and not limited to the fear of leaving your friends to attend a school that you may not know anyone.

But here is a scenario (true story) of a talented young player that the school had trouble fielding a team. They had to forfeit four games during the season due to not having enough players.

Again, I don't agree that rules of transfer should be governed by the state. It's difficult enough for the districts to manage...and each district has their own rules tailored for what they believe is for their needs.

Transfers in Gaston County had been happening for YEARS, and for athletic reasons. It use to be that if a school offered something that another did not, then a kid could transfer. That was being used to death, and it got really bad. More are staying in their original home district now but some parents will move to the area in which they want their kid to play, but at least they attend the school legitimately now. I'm sure there are good reasons for Transfers, but how timely would it be to check EVERY single one that wanted to transfer? There's no exceptions here, according to the County AD. Stated that if he made an exception for one then they'd have to review all requests. I do think they should, but on the same note I can understand the time comsumption that would cause.
