The situation is there are 2 outs and a runner on 2nd. base.
The batter hits the ball to shortstop, the runner runs into the shortstop and is called out for interference for the third out.
What do you give the batter in the score book?

When a runner is called out for interference, the batter is awarded 1st base and is credited a fielder's choice.

might as well just give them a single. Most scorekeepers don't have a clue as to what a fielders choice is. Lets not even get started on this subject.

FC - fielder's choice. Time at bat and 0-1.

    don't pad the BA

Really many scorekeepers don't have a clue what a BASE HIT is. When a fielder makes an error, then it's not a hit & the batter is 0 -1.

But yes in the example given, it's a fielders choice & the batter is not credited with a hit, but does count as an at-bat so the batter is 0 -1 & loses points on the batting average. Sorry.
Actually a fielders choice should be easy to understand.

I think that many times in "youth" games including HS, batters are often given "hits" when it's actually an error made.

No other call but Fielders Choice...........Softball Guru....90% percent chance that one of the runners would have been thrown out....

    FC? or hit?

example: fast runner on 1st. high bouncer hit to SS ; the SS fields the ball, throws to 2nd to attempt a force out, but fast runner beats the throw & is safe.

    Hit or Fielders Choice?

    I think it's FC.

FC - SS could have just as easliy thrown to first and the batter would have been out - made the choice to do otherwise.
