Runner on first, one out. Hard ground ball to second baseman who for some reason throws to first, accidently sticking it in the ear-hole of the runner. Ball bounces off helmet and over the fence, striking an old lady who had just sat down with some nachos and cheese. She's ready to slug the guy behind her who she thought had just clanged her in the head with a fungo bat. The runner, momentarily stunned, runs back to first and then continues back into homeplate with a fabulous head-first slide.

    What now?

    Depends

It depends on whether or not the old lady had both feet planted and established position prior to being hit and previous to consuming said nachos. If so, then clearly she is entitled to reimbursment from second baseman. The hitter/batter should be returned to first base for violation of mandatory feet-first slide rule and then awarded third base as he clearly had firstbase established prior to ball leaving field of play. The run will not count because he had not crossed the plate before nachos hit the ground. Additionally, second baseman who clearly erred in throwing to wrong base shall not be charged an error due to his girlfriend being seen in the opposing bleachers in a compromising position. I had a situation a few years back that I finally used some of my sources with Minor League Baseball.com to find the answer to.

South Caldwell was playing McDowell and South had a runner on third. Casey Justice laced a ball down the third baseline and nails the runner (I think it was Colt Seter) in the numbers. Colt is out and Casey is awarded first base. How is Casey's AB listed? According to MinorLeagueBaseball.com, its a fielders choice and the put out is awarded to the third basemen.

I also had a discussion last year of a situation in a Crawdad game I had never heard of. I think it was Todd Redmond pitching for the Crawdads and retired the first two batters of the inning then 3 straight reached on errors to load the bases. Redmond is pulled and the relief gave up a first pitch Slam. The relief pitcher does not get the benefit of the 3 errors and there is a earned run charged to the pitcher.
