...this is a little off the beaten path but here we go, UNC V. TENN, last year, runner on 1st, leftie slapper at the plate, 2 strikes, batter slaps to third, 3rd goes to 1st for an out. In the paper the next day, the scoring of this play was ruled....and check this out....BOTH a SAC and a FC. OK Sacs don't count against the batter and FCs do, whats up here folks. BTW, many TB folks and TBR folks were there and saw this play, and we all got into a conversation over is a slap considered a batted or bunted ball. With 2 strikes, if a kid tries to bunt to move a runner, well it better land and stay in fair territory. But if in the 2 strike example hear, the batter slaps, and it goes foul shes not out right? How is it that a slapper can get credit for moving a runner when shes not truly "sacrificing" her time at bat?

and I'm sure you know this.......

........... Can't be both SAC and FC. Has to be one or the other. Sounds to me from your description that it should have been ruled a FC.

........... Now to the second part... and I'm sure youu know the difference here too... with two strikes, the batter slaps one foul, it is a foul ball. If bunting on the third strike and the ball goes foul, batter out and is recorded as K.

The difference is between a full swing or wave or what ever you want call it, rather than a full square, catch the ball with bat bunt.

    A FC? LOL:N1Idontgetit:

The answer to that is actually quite easy. Since 3B went to 1B for the out - and apparently got it - this is not even a choice between FC and SAC. The FC only comes into play if the defense chooses to go for the lead runner headed to 2B. When the out is called on the batter....FC is, by definition, not applicable.

This would either be an out or, with a truly generous scorer, a SAC.

Personally, I would score this as GO31. The whole point of the slap is to force an error in the form of a bobble or to drive the ball through a hole to get to base.

I've heard of a Sac Bunt, I've heard of a Sac Fly. No such things as a Sac Slap. :)

    I'm with you......

.....on this one. Hey, believe me, this particular situation was observed by a bunch of us. We all were discussing sac v. out. I'd go back to "tarheelblue.com" to look up the game summary but the NCSU blood in me just won't allow it! lol. Wheres ChaCha?

    RUT ROW....

...one of my UNC pals has informed me that the out was recorded at 2nd on the lead runner. OK, that explains the FC, now explain how this can be called a sac as well.

    Can't be a sac

FC, yes if the out was at 2B.

SAC? Can't be a sac unless she was out at 1B as well. And even then it wouldn't be a sac, it would be a hit into a double play recorded as DP 5-4-3.

The only reason it would be considered a FC is if they are trying to pad the averages!!!!!

FC counts against your batting average.
