    Hopewell 42
    Mooresville 21

Mooresville fell behind 21-0 in the first quarter. Hopewell had three rushing plays that seemed to work really well, Touchdown right, Touchdown left, and Touchdown up the middle.

Ragsdale’s defense continued it’s domination of the Piedmont Triad 4A with its fourth straight shut out over NW Guilford 20-0.

However the game didn’t look so great in the first half. NW Guilford’s offense was non existent. And Ragsdale’s wasn’t much better. Untimely penalties, befuddling play calling and poor execution resulted in a scoreless half. Ragsdale had good field position every time they got the ball but missed a FG on its first possession and also on the last possession of the half.

But it didn’t take long for Ragsdale’s offense to get on track. A short kick off, a 15 yard run by D’onovan Smith and a 37 yard TD pass to Desean Anderson made it 7-0 Ragsdale just 41 seconds into the half. Ragsdale D then got a turnover on NWG’s first possession as Avery Washington made a great shoestring interception. It took Smith two carries for 15 and 3 yards for a TD and a 13-0 lead.

Ragsdale would score one more time on the first play of the fourth quarter as Heavner found Tyquan Roberts down the left side line for a 38 yard scoring pass. Heavner only threw two passes in the second half; two completions, two touchdowns.

I didn’t keep many stats tonight. But I do know Smith had another 100 yard game and a TD. Heavner also had over 100 yards passing with the two TDs. But the story of the game and the season continues to be the Ragsdale defense. If Northwest had over 100 yards in offense it wasn’t by much. Their offense never crossed the fifty the whole game. The only time they threatened in the fourth Ragsdale D held them with yet another first and goal stand. NWG faked a FG from the three but the pass was incomplete. And the only reason they were down there was thanks to Ragsdale turning the ball over on a missed fake punt and some bizarre officiating. The refs were pitiful tonight. Way too many obvious calls missed and way too many conferences to figure out why there were so many flags on the ground.

9-0, 4-0 with the all important bye week coming up. These boys have earned the break for sure. Best part for Ragsdale is next week they get to go scout the Glenn-High Point Central game, the other two undefeated teams in the conference and Ragsdale’s next two opponents.

Two straight weeks where the Cougars did not turn in an overall good performance. They dominated the stats but penalties killed them. They went 0-3 in the red zone so it should not have been that close. St Stephens is a pretty good team, they have some size and throw the ball well. Cougars must get better at defending the pass, some of the St Stephens receivers were very, very, open. Still, the Cougars are 8-0 and have won 10 straight going back to 2008. A big, big, big, one on Friday at home against Watauga. We need that same kind of atmosphere we had against Hickory, the 12th man could be the difference. Cougar fans, this is much bigger and more important game the one against Hickory. We want to beat Hickory, we need to beat Watauga.

Great game! Bulls scored to win with about thirty seconds to go. Trojans then were driving when the QB was hit and threw it up. Robby Newell intercepted and Bulls held on for the win.
