    Richmond - 69
    Pinecrest - 35

Pinecrest led this game 35-34 deep into the third quarter before the wheels fell off. The Raiders put up 41 points in the second half. Richmond wins the conference championship, picking up where they left off in 2000 with the new conference realignment.

    Ragsdale 23 Glenn 10

For the only the second time this season and for the first time in over two months, Ragsdale found themselves trailing in the first half but managed to take the lead at the half for the tenth time this season for a hard fought 23-10 win over the Glenn Bobcats. Glenn is the only team other than Page to score more than once on Ragsdale but the defense pitched the shutout in the second half to make sure the halftime lead held up.

Glenn ended the shutout streak early in the game. After Ragsdale went three and out to start, Glenn’s Josh Hawkins gashed the Tiger D on their second play from scrimmage on an 83 yard TD run at 9:42 in the first. The rest of the first quarter was all defense. Both teams moved the ball but couldn’t get into scoring range. Glenn’s 7-0 lead to end the first quarter was the only quarter end this season where Ragsdale trailed.

Ragsdale finally got on the board in the second quarter thanks to some nice running by D’onovan Smith and big catches by Deshawn Shouse and Desean Anderson. Barry Brown took it in from five yards out to tie the game with 8:27 left in the half. Ragsdale D held then the offense took the lead back as Shouse broke several tackles after a short pass and raced 50 yards for the TD. Shouse was filling in for Tyquan Roberts who was out with a concussion and came up big time after time.

Ragsdale gave Glenn a little life late in the half as they went for it on fourth down around the fifty and didn’t covert. Glenn took advantage with under a minute left and no time outs, hitting a big pass down to the ten. It looked like Ragsdale D was going to hold though as Glenn snapped the ball with the clock reading zeros. But the refs gave them one more untimed down due to offsetting penalties. Not sure about that call. I knew a half couldn’t end on a defensive penalty but thought it should end on offsetting. Either way Glenn took advantage of the extra play to kick a FG to cut the lead to 14-10.

Second half was all defense until late. Glenn never threatened again and Ragsdale took advantage on a short punt in the third. Desean Anderson had a nice catch and run that looked like a TD but he stepped out at the ten. The drive stalled however and Kasey Redfern kicked a 30 yard FG with 8:17 in the third for a 17-10 Ragsdale lead. That’s the way the score stayed until Ragsdale punted the ball away late in the fourth ? Glenn fumbled the fair catch and Walt Sparks recovered at the ten. Ragsdale got the insurance points as Heavner found TE Pete Romer in the end zone with :56 seconds left. 23-10 the final.

It was fun to finally watch a tight ball game after seven straight blow outs. The defense came through after giving up the big play early. A high powered offense missing two big receivers found another star in Shouse who caught 6 passes for 116 yards and a TD. Heavner had a good night going 14-25 189 yards and two TDs. Anderson caught six passes for 65 yards and D’onovanSmith did his usual hard running between the tackles for 74 yards on 22 carries and another fumble free night. In addition to Sparks’ fumble recovery, Avery Washington had a pick in the first half. Redfern boomed his kicks and punts once again. The defense was led by EVERYBODY once again. Sparks, Billy Stone and Daniel McNeil in particular. And tackle Neil Jones was covered in dirt by games end ? you could tell he had been clogging that Glenn line most of the night.

10-0 5-0 with one more big game next week with Central at Simeon Stadium. It will be like another playoff game just like tonight was. Lose and Ragsdale could end up hitting the road in the first round with a 10-1 record. Win and they could get home field throughout. My money will be on the Tigers.

    That's a lot of seniors...
