Rowan led the entire game, but UNC signee Ben Bunting hit a walk off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win. Randolph is in second place in the Northern Division of Area III.

Tonight is fan appreciation night at Newman Park in Salisbury. All drinks and hotdogs are $1 as Rowan (1st place in the Southern Division) take on Eastern Randolph (1st place in Northern Division). Rowan won the first meeting this year 12-4.

The Southern Division leader in Area III pounded the Northern Division leader in what should have been a closer game. Rowan avoided dropping back to back games with a definitive victory.

    Kannapolis 5
    Lexington 4

WP - Robby Gurley (pitched into the 8th inning, 8 Ks)
LP - Daniel Sechrest (8 innings, pitched well, several Ks)
Save - Jacob "The Assassin" Wright (2 innings, 4 Ks)

Kannapolis gets good starting pitching for the 3rd staright game. Brett Honeycutt continues to absolutely spank the ball going 4-4. Aaron Lynch also provided some key hits for K-Town and was robbed of an RBI on a great diving catch by L-D right fielder Zach Joyce. Zach Briggs went 3-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI for Post 8.

    Lexington was without Levi Micheal.

I wasn't there, but I understand that Lexington was also w/o slugger Alex Grubb (church mission trip) & Jay Yount (signed w/ Barton...gone to beach). I think Briggs was Showcasing too.

But let me be clear: Lex has plenty of depth & has zero excuse. Our kids just got beat. Kannapolis is really playing well right now. Sechrest is Lex's #2 pitcher, so the K boys beat one of our best. Well done.

Correct. Grubb and Yount were also not there however, Zach Briggs was there along with the slugger going to Belmont Abbey, Daniel Kausoff.

Kannapolis was without power-hitter Jay Hosack.

Give Kannapolis credit - they outplayed Lexington in every phase of the game and deserved to win. Sechrest pitched well last night with the exception of one bad inning. Gurley was keeping Lexington hitters off balance all night.

Lexington appears in flux right now (lost 3 of their last 7) - beach trips have hurt this team in a big way - two more are headed there Sunday for a week.

Its my understanding Levi is no longer on the team - per what I heard from a reliable source at the field last night - he would have missed too many games with the Dirtbags and the decision was made to go forward without him.

Lexington has a tough game tonight vs Rowan. Watson will be pitching for Lexington and I assume either Young or Linza for Rowan - should be a good matchup.
