I believe McDowell made a great goal line stop late to secure the shutout.:hurray:

It was a huge win for the Titans who won this game on defense and heart. Although McDowell gave up alot of yards on Punt and Kickoff defense & on penalties, Enka just couldnt muster any offense to put it in the end zone. The goal line stand was very impressive after giving up a personal foul penalty which put the ball on the four-yard line.

Offensively, it was the short bullet passes from Dakota Arrowood to Matt Amerto and Brent Rowe, and the 5 yard runs Marquis McSwain and #34 that propelled McDowell. Although we miss the long runs from Terrence Kincaid, this offensive scheme will benefit us in the long run and it helps the team out by grinding out the clock & allowing the defense to get rested.

While this is just Enka, and not a team like East Burke or Reynolds, this is the first big team win (as in winning on both offense, defense, and intangibles) in sometime and hopefully this will carry on up to Memorial Stadium in Ledger next week when we face Mitchell.

Bandys threw the ball at will. Mooresville ran the ball at will.

But with 6 minutes to go and Mooresville seemingly in the drivers seat, the ball took a funny bounce. Bandys had scored but missed on a two point conversion and Mooresville still lead 35-34. The ensuing, line drive kick-off hit a Mooreville up man and bounced right into the arms of a Bandys chaser. The Trojans scored a few minutes later and missed another two point attempt. Mooresville got the ball back with about 4 minutes left but was stopped at the Bandys 15 as time ran out.

    Richmond - 21
    New Bern - 21

Raiders ran at will against the defending state champs. Passing game needs serious attention. Three picks - one for a td. Two fumbles lost and a host of untimely penalties. Impressed with the offensive line. They punched massive holes in the defensive front. Impressed with the defense as well. New Bern had only one long sustained drive. I understand their reasoning in allowing the game to end in a tie, but that's not why they play the game. That was a bummer.

Could not have asked for a better start to the Carson Gowan era at McDowell High School. There were a lot of very happy people leaving Enka with not only a win ( something we all would have been happy enough taking) but a shutout to boot. Honestly I can't remember the last time we did that?

It was a very balanced effort...I haven't seen an offense ran as well at McDowell in a long time. McSwain and Hill is going to be an interesting running back combo. I also thought our line did a pretty good job against a team that was bigger than us in the trenches...and just as soon as Enka tried to figure it out, we punch Daniel McKinney through the line on a couple fullback draw plays that went for good yardage. That put a big smile on Coach Gowan's face for sure.

Dakota Arrowood did an excellent job managing the game under center. I thought with the exception of the first couple series he was extremely accurate. The other thing I also appreciate is how Dakota does an excellent job selling the play action. Too many signal callers out there don't sell it enough to make the defense bite. Matt Amerto is going to have a big year for the Titans at wideout, a place where he can finally call home. Brent Rowe is going to make a living this year catching a lot of stuff up the middle.

Our defense im my eyes was the story...we are all over the place making plays, a lot like we did at the North Buncombe scrimmage last week. We may not have the strongest or biggest linebackers out there but I'll take Bingham, Velez and Westmoreland anyday. They play with the heart and intensity that a team needs. I also thought Terrance Anderson played a huge game...he's the smallest guy on the line of scrimmage but he was all over the place, especially in the 1st half.

All in all a great win for the boys, but it gets tougher next week as they head to Mitchell. I gotta believe a large showing will take place next week.
