    NPC scouting reports

West Rowan is definitely the team to beat in the NPC this spring. WR's junior class is awesome. Northwest Cabarrus has a lot of returning key players and will be WR's biggest challenge, but those 2 teams will definitely be 1-2 in this league.

East Rowan suffered a huge loss when it was determined that Steedley can't pitch this spring. ER has other pitchers returning, but still lost a lot from last year's team. Kannapolis lost their 2 top pitchers from last years co-championship team but they still have talent too. I look for East Rowan, Kannapolis and Mooresville to battle for 3rd place.

I have to agree with the wufman..West Rowan is very talented..Especially there junior class...But like wise with the boys from over at Northwest Cabarrus.. There senior class is very strong..Especially the group that will toe the rubber. There's nothing better than senior leadership and good pitching. If I remember correctly I believe the two teams split last year.Should get real interesting soon. For as the rest of the league,I agree with wufman..ER-K-TOWN -MO TOWN should battle for the last playoff spot.

Thanks for the compliments on our Blue Devils. We do have some veteran players returning and a good crop of sophs. that are probably a year away from making a real impact. I just cant say enough good things about WR and NWC baseball, and I would'nt be so quick to discount ER. I would also like to give a shout out to Lake Norman, they have some talent(not too deep though) and could suprise some teams this season.

HOW ABOUT WADE MOORE AT WEST ROWAN HERE THIS GUY IS VERY TALENTED. WEST ROWAN SHOULD GO DEEP IN THE PLAYOFFS WITH ALL OF THAT TALENT THEY HAVE. SHOULD BE PRETTY STRONG FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

The 3A state championship candidate have three big potential obstacles in their way.

    1) Defending champion T C Roberson - will be strong but not dominate
    2) Pre-season favorite Tuscola - same conference as TC
    3) Glenn H.S. - great pitcher there - real bull-dog. Can beat anyone at any level when he's on the mound.

I really like WR & NWC out of the NPC this year but I think the champ is going to come from the mountains again.

    Northwestern 4A Scouting Reports

Ok guys...Lets get started and put it on the line. I know the teams haven't been selected, but we can make some SWAG's at this. Who looks good? Who will be on varsity? What's the outlook for the team?

Playme - can you get them started. Give us the highlights and let the individual schools chime in.

NCBBALLFAN, I thought this thread was only about the upcoming North Piedmont Conference.

However, if you want to talk about the top contenders state-wide,,,,, yes I will agree with you about Tuscola (my #1 pick) and I also like TC Robeson too (although they lost some key players from last year). I also like South Point this spring. Nevertheless, and I don't know how famaliar you are with the NPC, but I'm telling you NOW that West Rowan "WILL BE" talented enough to compete and even beat "ANYONE" in the state this spring. It will be no fluke if it happens. Folks outside of this area will soon hear about WR names like Adams, Graham, Waller, etc.

And just so you know, I'm not a WR fan,,,, I'm just a HS baseball fan telling it like I see it...

As for my earlier comment, Northwest Cabarrus will be good too with strong pitching, and they will make some noise in the state playoffs too, but I'm not sure if they are talented enough to win a state championship. West Rowan is....

    Scouting Report on Meca 8

NCBBallfan: Just wanted to see if you had been to any of N. Meck practices this week? I have been out of town and won't be back until the 21st. How do they look and don't they have some scrimmages this week? Thanks for any info you can give.

Been talkin to DK some - he's been giving me some reports.

There are a few surprises and over all it looks like a good team. It will be good at both levels. Varsity can only keep 18 because they only have 18 uniforms. Last year, they went with 15.

    - Varsity Roster: 17 currently
    - Second cut to JV coming after this week.
    - 4 more showing up Monday from basketball for tryouts
    - Outfield has great depth & speed. Skidmore (03) anchor in CF
    - Fast crop of juniors in the OF (Hollar & Portone (04) look good)
    - SS/3B: Nossel, Burris (03's) & Pierce (05) have cannons
    - 3B: John Kellett (05) is crushing the ball, will challenge to start
    - C: Ben Sherrill (04) & Robert Proffit (06) on varsity.
    - 2B: Will be a fight between J Epps (03) & Cavi (05) for starter.
    - P: Porter & Pierce (05's) got the #1 & #2 spots. 2 good seniors and a good junior behind them. Rosenbaum and Allen (05) will push hard to join them since basketball is over.

Notes: You need to see Robert Proffit (c) frame a low strike - has senior level skills for an 06. A few players I would have like to keep will be down on JV (Parks & Whitmire) but the Seniors on the IF have flat-out played great. Kellett might get pushed down to JV. He has to beat out Burris to get the job at 3B and Burris is a very solid player. Kellett has options (JV), Burris doesn't. One returning senior didn't make the cut. A couple of juniors didn't want to move down to JV so they dropped out. You may have games where 5 players below Junior start, but it will usually be less.

I want to see GA, Cavi, Rosey & Big Mac this week. I guess that two will move up and two go down. Mac started pitching again last year and will probably work into the rotation down on JV.

Bottom line: Defense looks great. Catching will be good but not outstanding - both are underclassmen. 5 pitchers - Enough once all the arms get strong though I'd like another (if you get too many, they don't get enough innings). Most of the hitting comes from the underclassmen, so look for low scoring games. A few question marks here and there.

The rain is moving off sunday, so it looks like a go for Monday against East Lincoln @ East Lincoln. (Wrong!) Game time temp may be 35-40 so don't look for anyone to go more than 2 innings. Forestview @ home later in the week.

JV usually doesn't get too many scrimmage games in - They will have South Meck at home on the 25th and SM has some great JV pitching also. Should be a good test.
