    North Meck versus Forestview

Since each team needed to work their pitchers, they played 9 1/2 innings. The first 8 with umps, the last 1 1/2 with the coaches calling B/S from behind the mound.

North used 5 pitchers, each throwing 2 innings, Forestview used 4. Cannon from Forestview hit a HR, there were 3 doubles in the game (2 NM, 1 FV).

Middle defense for FV struggled, outfield mis-tracked a few balls. North played solid defensively, committing 1 error. Forestview ended up with about 4 hits, NM about 10 hits. The FV pitchers struck out 4 and walked 4, NM struck out 15 & walked 4 batters.

John Kellet led North with 2 hits, Matt Nossell & Tom Porter (2B) also contributed strong hits. North's lead-off batter reached base 6 of the 9 innings the were at bat. Matt Murphy looked great on the bump the final 2 innings. Final score (as if it matters)

    NM 4, FV 2

Central Cabarrus traveled to South Meck

It was pretty much what people have posted about the two teams. CC can mash the ball..they are not looking for walks. Pitching is a little suspect, though

South played real well considering their first scrimmage game. The Pitchers pitched well, the hitters hit and the final was 13-2 or something like that.

Everybody, naturally, looked a little rusty, but there were many things to be pleased about if you were a SM fan.

North looked good against Forestview - All 5 pitchers threw effectively, each going 2 innings. Collectively, they had about 14 strikeouts to 4 walks. They held Forestview to 4 hits. The defense committed 1 error in 10 innings.

John Kellett hit very well, putting the ball in play everytime, Joel Burris showed great bat control, hitting behind the runner. The speedsters really burned it... Cavasinni, Skidmore, Williams, Portone all showed their "stuff". Nossel & Porter each doubled.

    Very good first outing

Negatives: Stranding runners but that's more related to shoveling 18 guys in and out of the line-up.

    Myers Park/Hopewell Schedule Change

I heard last night that the Myers Park-Hopewell game has been moved to Saturday, March 1st, 2:00 PM, at Hopewell. Apparently, the change affects ONLY the varsity teams, as the JV game is still on at Myers Park on Friday at 4:30.

Yep...this is true. Hopewell players are involved in a school event, hence the change to Saturday. Should be a good visiting crowd for that game.

Can't miss THAT game!!!!!! Must see for everybody....

Only pity is that it's so early in the season, Woodard & Cruse won't be able to stick around all game.. If Woodard gets the start - doesn't MP have games earlier that week?

Smasher - keep us posted on how Allen is pitching also - have they set a rotation (or selected the pitchers) on JV yet?

To me, on the outside, it looks to be Rosenbaum, Parks, Allen, Kelly & maybe McAuley. I know there are some good freshman arms there too.
