    H P Andrews 32
    West Iredell 12

I was listening to the game on the radio, sounded like a great game so I ventured out in the cold to watch the 2nd half

it was 18-12 at the half.

Andrews came out and controlled the line of scrimmage in the 2nd half. Drove and scored on a 39 yards Kellen Brand run. Michael Carter INT on WI's first posession. Traded punts. WI drove and was fourth and five from the 15 t start the 4th quarter - drew a iterference call to keep the drive alive - was guilty of offensive interference in the end zone - pushed them back to the 20. #8 for WI droppped a catchable pass on 4th down. Andrews then had a 7 minute drive capped off by a 29 yard TD run by McManus.

Sanders for Andrews had two INTs in the 4th quarter.

Dalton for WI has some good speed for sure. The QB was pretty good too.

I was more impressed with Sanders as a DB than I was Gilchrist who is supposed to be their brst player

    Second-half shutout propels Andrews
By Keith Tolbert, Special to the News & Record

HIGH POINT -- After giving up a couple of big plays to West Iredell in the first half, Andrews coach Derek Anderson talked to his team about trust. And they certainly listened by shutting out the Warriors the rest of the game in a 32-12 second round 3-A playoff victory for the Red Raiders.

"We talked to them about trusting one another," Anderson said. "They (West Iredell) had some kids who could make plays. We told our guys 'Just play your responsibility.'"

The message was certainly clear to defensive back Brian Sanders, who had two interceptions and knocked down another pass in the end zone all in the second half.

"They told us to take care of our jobs," Sanders said. "We needed to be working as 11, instead of as one."

Anderson said one of the biggest adjustments was to contain West Iredell's quarterback, Dewain Clark. His scrambling ability created problems in the first half and Anderson knew they had to kept him in check to have a chance.

While the defense was keeping the Warriors (8-5) out of the end zone, the offense kept moving the clock, scoring points, and letting the defense rest. After stopping the Warriors on fourth and goal at the 11, Andrews (10-3) ate up nearly five minutes in the fourth quarter before scoring its final points, a 30-yard scamper by Corey McManus with 4:12 to play.

"They've got some good athletes," Anderson said, referring to West Iredell's offense. "We knew that some ball control offense was needed. I think fatigue was a factor late in the game. They had a lot of guys playing both ways."

Andrews scored the game's first touchdown on a 25-yard touchdown pass to Sanders. But the Warriors bounced back with a 35-yard pass to set up their first score and a spectactular 57-yard touchdown run by Chris McCormick. Clark pitched to McCormick to the left, but it was contained. McCormick cut all the way back across the field to the right and outran all the Andrews defenders to the end zone.

"You've got to give him credit for that," said defensive tackle Tim Smith. "We didn't communicate. We have to communicate on defense to win."

Andrews started the third quarter with a 65-yard drive, capped by a 39-yard touchdown run by quarterback Kellen Brand to take a 25-12 lead.

A -- Brian Sanders 25 pass from Kellen Brand (Andre Brockman run)

W -- Chris McCormick 1 run (run failed)

    W -- McCormick 57 run (pass failed)

A -- Brockman 4 run (Micahael Von Dohlen kick)

    A -- Von Dohlen 27 FG

    A -- Brand 39 run (Von Dohlen)

A -- Corey McManus 30 run (Von Dohlen)

Very hard hitting game in a frigid Newland tonight. WEst missed some opportunities but Avery went from passing every down to pounding the ball. #14 for Avery did an excellent job of reading holes and broke several long runs.

Wonders win in a thriller double OT...

You know the old saying " I hate for either team to lose"..both teams left nothing on the field and it was just and old fashion smashmouth you take this and you take that type of game...

Wonders lead 14-7 at the half and TC Roberson came back and tied the game with 22 sec left on a FG(24-24) sent the game into overtime...

Both teams scored and made the extra point in the 1st OT session..(31-31)

TC Roberson scored 1st and made the extra point to start the 2nd OT..(38-31)
AL Brown was 2nd and 9 when QB Shaun Fortson was sent to the sidelines after a late hit.Soph, Johnatan Efird off the bench...on his 1st play he hit Fowler out of the backfield for the score and another late hit on the QB after the score move the ball to the 1 and 1/2 yd line for the extra point...the Wonders elected to go for 2 and Efird hit Jay Hosack in the back of the end zone for the 2 point coversion...Wonders win 39-38
