Sunday's North Raleigh at Wilson game has been canceled -- North Raleigh couldn't field enough players for the trip. Wilson (16-3, 6-1) closes out Area I East North Division play Tuesday at home vs. Edgecombe Co.

It's a sad day in the Legion world when a program like North Raleigh can't field enough players to play ball.

    Shelby sweeps double header (shelbystar.com)

Shelby Post 82 has now scored double-digit runs in four-straight games as it claimed a pair of non-division wins Sunday at Veterans Field and Keeter Stadium.
    Scores: Game 1 - Shelby 19, Rock Hill, S.C. 3; Game 2 - Shelby 12, Denver 2
Record: Post 82 improved to 20-10 overall and has claimed eight victories by the mercy rule. Shelby has won 10 of its last 12 games overall.
    Game Two
In the nightcap, Post 82 trailed 2-0, then rallied for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good.
Brett Wease (3B, 2B) and Kyle Kendrick had three hits and two RBI each for Shelby. Post 82's Julian Ridings (2 RBI), Tyler Rabb (HR, 2B, RBI) and Corey Cline (RBI) added two hits apiece. The home run was Rabb's third of the season.
In relief of starter Kyle Nanney, Brett Wease pitched seven innings to get the win. Wease (1-0) gave up no runs and four hits with five strikeouts and two walks in his longest outing of the American Legion season.
    Game One
Kyle Kendrick and Adam McFarland had three hits and two RBI each to lead Post 82's 16-hit outburst. Julian Ridings (4 RBI) and Julian Bridges (RBI) added two hits apiece, while Jordan Robinson slugged a three-run home run - his sixth of the year - in the third inning.
Shelby sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs in the third inning to break things open. Post 82 also batted around in the first and fifth innings, respectively.
Seth Canipe (2-1) worked six innings and gave up just one run and three hits to pick up the win. The righthander struck out nine and walked three. Jay Robinson tossed the final inning of relief work.
Next: Post 82 travels to Pineville today at 7 p.m.

Area I East South Division is one big mess.

    New Bern 4-2
    Kinston 4-2
    Wayne 4-3
    Pitt 39 3-3
    Pitt 160 1-6

Any of the playoff-bound teams could finish anywhere from first to fourth.

We used to play 21 conference games. Then they split the league into divisions. Teams this year played each other in games that didn't count in the standings. We might need to go to DH's on the weekends next season. Eight division games is not enough.

    Randolph 14
    Rowan 10

Rowan commits four errors on the night to worsen their cause and the Post 45 bats could not be silenced late. Rowan had leads of 9-5 and 10-8 late but could not hold on. Josh Hohn went 4-for-4 on the night with a big three-run shot off Rowan reliever Trey Holmes in the 8th inning to put Randolph on top for good. Randolph then added another run in the top of 9th to put some distance between them and the hosts. Rowan starter Russell Michalec had another quality start against Post 45. The good thing for Rowan is that this was a non-league game, but on Tuesday looms a big game with Lexington and this one will count in the standings. Rowan should send Tanner Brown to the bump.

    Shelby beats Pineville 8-3 (shelbystar.com)

CHARLOTTE - Shelby Post 82 continued its winning ways with an 8-3 non-division win Monday night over Pineville Post 337 at Ardrey Kell High School.
Record: Shelby improved to 21-10 and has won six in a
    row.
On the mound: Jordan Robinson (5-1) got the win - going 6.2 innings and yielding three runs and seven hits. The righthander walked four and struck out four. All three of Robinson's runs allowed were in the seventh inning.
Eric Shuford came on to record the last two outs, both by strikeout, as he allowed one hit and walked one.
Leading hitters: Brett Mabry slugged a grand slam as his second home run of the season keyed a five-run third inning. Julian Ridings hit his first home run of the year, a solo shot in the second.
Seth Canipe posted four hits, including a double, and scored once, while Tyler Rabb drove in two with a triple.

Shelby never trailed, leading 6-0 after three innings and 8-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
    Updated schedule
Tuesday vs. Burke County, 7 p.m.
    Thurs. vs. Pineville, 7 p.m.
Fri. vs. Asheville (DH), 5 p.m., both 7 inning games
Sat. vs. Denver, 2 p.m.; Gaston Braves, 7 p.m., both 9 inning games
    End of regular season

Shelby is getting hot at the right time. They have scored 73 runs in their last 6 games (over 12 runs a game) and have beat a good Cherryville, Rutherford, and Pineville team. They have solid starting and relief pitching. They are a force to be reckoned with.
