North Raleigh did bring 10 to Southern Wayne HS Tuesday in a 7-4 loss. I overheard the head coach in a conversation with a reporter say five players he was expecting decided that they weren't going to play college ball so it was time to quit playing.

We can't say much. In the mid nineties, we had a player forego his final season because he cared more about his hogs.

The Area I East South Division has the possibility of all four playoff teams finishing anywhere from first to fourth as they are anywhere from 4-2 to 3-3. Things start getting sorted out Tuesday night.

New Bern lost one of its players to a torn labrum, then had another take off for the Big Apple. That team will play only 13 regular season games. They just didn't schedule more.

Wayne's offense is better than the state runner up, but the pitching lost four to college. You have nowhere to go but down. Wayne won six, lost three and won six. We're headed for Garner tonight.

    Ugh!

    Edgecombe Co. ... 4
    Wilson ............... 1

Edgecombe Co. wins its second game of the year as Wilson is unable to solve the off-speed deliveries of pitcher A.J. Peaks. The Edgecombe pitcher spaces 7 singles amid a slew of harmless pop-ups and carries a shutout into the 9th before walking his first batter.

Wilson, now guaranteed of 2nd place in the Area I East North Division behind Rocky Mount, issues 6 walks, 5 singles and a hit batter, throws 3 wild pitches and commits 3 errors in a lifeless performance to wrap up divisional play at 6-2, 16-4 overall. Edgecombe Co. is 1-4, 2-15.

If Lexington loses twice today to South Rowan and Kannapolis, they would be tied in the division with Rowan and Rowan would hold the tiebreaker, therefore giving them second place. If Rowan wins Thursday at South Rowan, they are guranteed third outright. Mooreville could potentially be tied with Rowan as well, be they swept Rowan this year.

    Seeds 1-2 will be Cary/Durham...
    3- North Raleigh
    4- Roxboro

still some games left to decide the playoff picture

    Lexington 8
    South Rowan 5

Lexington jumped on top 7-0 and held off South. I believe Joyce got the win and Zach Wright took the loss for SR.

Lexington plays at Kannapolis again tonight and South Rowan hosts Mooresville. The Lexington win clinches 3rd place for Rowan County. Rowan is at South Thursday night.

    South Rowan 6
    Mooresville 5 (7 innings)

    WP: Ryan Bostian
    LP: Aubrey Meadows
    SV: Walker Snow

Mooresville trails 6-3 going into the bottom of the 7th and nearly comes all the way back. Runners on 2nd and third with one out and the score at 6-5, but the Moors leave them out there and lose to SR. South only registered 4 hits in the game. Both teams committed a few errors. A big blow was a two run home run off the bat of Walker Snow against Meadows who had some control problems. Mooresville has one league game left with Statesville while South hosts Rowan County Thursday night. I would expect Walker Snow to be on the mound for South and Billy Veal going for Rowan.
