In 2008 Division I schools will start playing games several weeks later than they have in the past. With a 52-54 game schedule, that means that these schools will have to play 2 mid week games (normally1) + their normal weekend series in order to finish the season on schedule; By adding an additional game each week, they will need more pitching.
I have been told that this is only for Division I, but will probably trickle over to DII etc.

Reason: By the time schools from the northern states have played 10 games, some southern schools have played 30 or more. This is supposed to equalize the field.

This schedule change is for 2008-2009
Most of the schedules for 2007 have been posted on the college web sites. The ones that I have seen show start dates around February 17th for 2007 season. For 2008 games may not start until March 1 (approximately)
This equates to about 6-10 games that will have to be inserted into the weekday schedules. ( avg. 1 per week)
