A masterful job on the mound by The Fungo's Robby Gurley (NW Cabarrus) in the 2-1 victory Sunday (6IP, 3H, 1ER, 2BB, 5Ks). The game was closed out by flame-throwing +90 mph Sam Pierce (N Meck) who pitched the last inning for the save. The losing pitcher for the Hurricanes, Murphy, who threw a 5-hitter, has already signed with Albany State (Ga.)

(this tournament was a "warm-up" for The Fungo who will be playing in the upcoming Osceola Invitational, East Cobb Perfect Game and the NC Wooden Bat Championships which are all showcase tourneys)

The tournament has been played around rainy weather and is scheduled to be completed Sunday, July 10 weather pending. Hopefully the 18U will have improved conditions next week but it does not look good with Hurricane Dennis coming in. The Panthers will travel to North Meck to take on the Copperheads this week and play the Impact Dirtbags in a double header at Wofford College on Saturday before heading back to Atlanta to the Perfect Game 16U. Good Luck to Charlotte area 18U teams next week.
