    Committed players on Wilson Legion:

    Mitchell Wheeler - Barton
    Michael McLawhorn - Lenoir CC
    William Prince - UNC-Wilmington
    Zack Lee - Francis Marion
    Zack Houchins - Louisburg CC
    Kyle Pittman - ECU
    Cody Britt - Mount Olive

Just the '10 graduates going on to the college game...

Don't think I missed anybody, if I did I apologize.

There are 9 players on Wilson's legion team who will be playing in college somewhere next spring: Cody Britt (Mt. Olive), David Gibbons (Barton), Zach Houchins (Louisburg), Michael McLawhorn (Lenoir CC), Mitchell Wheeler (Barton), Zack Lee (Francis Marion), Kyle Shields (Francis Marion), Kyle Pittman (ECU), & William Prince (UNC-Wilmington). This legion team has players who have played on a variety of showcase teams:Dirtbags, Wilson Bulldogs, RBI Bandits, Lake Monsters, & Carolina Cubs, just to name a few.

Most of the coaches show up in the fall? Not according to the thread on the WWBA. I used to be a huge fan of legion, especially when it combined several schools and the competition was second to none. Now you have a legion team for every school just about and it is no where near as skilled as showcase ball. Now you can go watch a senior legion game and there might be a kid pitching that throws mid 70s.

I do think their is room for both, but I feel AL needs to revamp their methodologies to accomodate the current day way baseball is being driven.

    ^ this.....

I am not sure why these type of discussions come up... its the same "discussion" that comes up on the girl's side about going or not going to Boulder, CO.

If you want to play Legion and can make the team play it.. if you want to play Showcase and can make a team play that.

The reality is tho that showcase gives more exposure.. thats a fact. Coaches can come to one venue and see multiple kids. Certainly there are talented kids playing legion and if a coach is interested they will probably come and watch but coming to one single legion game in hopes of farming for talent is probably not going to happen unless its in the scope of the playoffs. The issue is really not how good a team is.. its about being seen!

Its much more efficient to go to a well run and attended showcase event for a college coach.

This is prime time recruiting season. July 1st opened the door for coaches to have contact with all rising seniors and their parents.

But for those that have never participated in the Perfect Game National Tournament at East Cobb, this is what you can expect.

"19 First Round Picks in last week’s draft attended last year’s PG National. How many future First Round Picks will come out of this year’s National Showcase? It’s loaded once again!

The alumni list is simply amazing. In fact, over the past 8 years this event has produced more first rounders than any other single showcase in history. It is one of the largest scouting attractions in all of baseball and the first big scouting event held each year. Top colleges and highest level MLB scouts, including most MLB directors of scouting, attend each year. The crowd is a Who’s Who of top prospects, scouts, recruiters, media and agents creating a meeting place for the biggest decision makers in baseball."

When a player participates in this event it allows them to measure their talent against many of the best in the country. With over 300 college and pro scouts in attendance, if you have talent you will be noticed. There is no event quite like this one and the one in Jupiter. I have seen kids from NC that were on no one's radar; and ended up being drafted because of their exposure here. It's simply amazing.

Is this the summer WWBA or the fall WWBA you are talking about?

The fall will have over 500 scouts from college and Pro teams. The one I quoted from is the summer National tournament this week.

EDIT: Oops, last year's Jupiter event had over 600 scouts attending. Many of the MLB clubs send their whole staff.
