Okay, here goes.... Top of the first, leadoff singles to center field. #2 hitter lays one down the line, catcher comes up and throws to first, ball hits batter/runner on helmet. Batter/Runner called out. runner returned to first. The explanation from the umpire... " the batter/runner while his foot was on the foul line, his head was in fair territory when the ball hit him, so he is out. There was no blatent attempt to get out of the base line, the batter/runner was running on the line.... whatcha think?

Stretchy and other umpires... waiting for what u think...

I'm not a umpire but i do know that the runner has a running lane on the foul side of the line. The runner should have been out. Right call

    Strange Runner

Simple anatomy would tell you that it would be virtually impossible for a baserunner's head to be outside the feet (left or right) while in a sprint (Assuming the baserunner did not have an enormously large head). I define the lines as part of the running lane, so in this case I would not have called runner interference. Now if the ball had hit the runner in the left shoulder, it is possible that it could have been outside the lane with the left foot on the line.

Right or wrong, calls are so much easier to make sitting in front of the computer.

    Heads up coach...

IF the batter/runner had a foot outside the running lane he would be called out for interference and the runner would be sent back to first base....it's not where his head is it is where his feet are.......sounds like the umpire got in your head and duped you...lol

If the runner's feet are on the line, it is the job of the catcher to establish a throwing lane. In my opinion that was a bad call. I don't really like this call in general unless it is a blatant attempt by the runner to get in the way, but it shouldn't be the job of the runner to make sure the defense has a throwing lane.

The line is there for a purpose (as is the line on the other side that creates the running lane) and the rule is there for a purpose...this purpose.

    Trickier elsewhere on the basepaths.....
