Are the box rules the same as traditional hitters?
Must the batter stay in the box until contact is made?

There is no difference in the rules for any type of hitter.

The batter can be out of the box as long as contact is not made with the ball. If the batter is out of the box and contact is made with the ball, the batter should be called out.

Out of the box is defined as the batter's foot on the ground and entirely out of the box when contact is made. If any part of the foot is touching the line of the box, then you are in the box.

Yes. As long as their foot is in the air, or if any part of the foot is touching the line they are considered in the box. I believe that's correct, but if I'm wrong on that, feel free to correct me.

yes rams, you've got that correct. the line is considered in the box and we teach them to try and slap the ball with the forward foot up in the air. i just wish the ump we had last night knew these rules, but ya cant have everything i guess. the only other difference is the dreaded third strike/foul ball for a slapper, some umps will consider this a bunt attempt and the slapper will be called out, but most know that its considered a swing as long as she breaks her wrists and slaps at the ball.

    Not a slapper, but.....

I see this alot and umpires never correct it. And most of us wish they would move the pitching distance to 43 ft.

we saw it a lot yesterday, but it's a judgement call and no use arguing about it. boxes were wrong to begin with and pitching circle was 4' in dia smaller than it should have been, just minor things that drive ya nuts.

I've seen competent baseball umpires redraw the line with the handle of a bat.

    out of

nice to have a still photo, but umps don't have that luxury in game time action.

if you watch college games, they have a liberal view of "out of box" on slappers. considered a favorable part of the fastpitch game.
