Patton should be pretty good this year. They return 7 starters off of last years 2a state runner up team. I feel this year could be a very good year for them

I agree. Patton will be tough to beat this year.

Any sleepers out there we should all be aware about? And what about some East teams?

    Landscape changes some this year:

Some traditionally strong baseball schools moved up to 4A this year:

    Lake Norman (defending champ)
    T.C. Roberson
    Ragsdale
    Mooresville
    SE Guilford

    & more!

Im thinking the ECC conference will be a tough one this year. With CB Aycock, Eastern Wayne, Southern Wayne, North Lenior, Triton, and South Johnston, two good teams will be sitting at home come playoff time.

Not real familiar with 3A schools but I gotta give my vote to Rocky Mount as the top 3A team in the state for 2010 when it's all said and done.

Moss, Helms, the Berry Bro's, etc... Loaded

    I agree:

Rocky Mount should rule the Big East & be highly ranked all season in the 3A polls. They will have probadly the best pitching rotation in the state (Hobbs Johnson, Benton Moss, & Parker Helms)
Also, they'll field a strong line-up in the field & at the plate:
    Collins Cuthrell (3rd baseman-strong hitter w/ power!)
Thomas Berry (catcher- another strong hiitter w/ power!)
Michael Whitehead (2nd baseman-another strong hitter!)
    Parker Helms (shortstop-another strong hitter!)
Matthew Berry (1st base- another strong hitter!)
    Carter Varnell (another hitter!)
Hobbs Johnson (hits as well as pitches)

    + strong JV program!
+ they'll have depth! (another pitcher by the name of Johnson coming up!)
+ new coach! Kent Cox (JV coach last year takes over for Pat Smith)

Rocky Mount loses some key guys: Brian Goodwin (UNC), Ben Fish (Campbell), Nick hahula (NC Central), & Dillon Cockrell (4 year starter at shortstop) off last years team, but the talent is there to make another run at the 3A State Title.

Looks like we won't have Carter Varnell. Carter had knee surgery recently which will leave him out of the line-up for the spring. He'll need the rehab time to get ready for college football. Best base runner RM had. We'll also have Spencer Bell who is a very solid player who can contribute at several positions. Hank Jones, who assisted Coach Smith will stay on to help ease the transition to a new coach.
