What kind of attitude are your going to display to the coach and staff that you're visiting???

In four weeks, i've been to two clinics/camps, just to watch. What i've seen is amazing.

Now, there's nothing wrong with attitude and there's nothing wrong with knowing you're good, but it's all in the way you deliver that message. If you start off on a vist with the "I know it all thing", you've just wasted your time, your parents money and most important, the coaches time.

BE HUMBLE!!!!!!!!!!! BE COACHABLE!!!!!!!!!LISTEN MORE THAN YOU TALK AND SHOW RESPECT TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

A college coach wants a player that will conform to his/her program, they want a player who is COACHABLE.....Not hard headed, headstrong, knows it all or disrespectful to others.

The best advice I can possibly give to a potential recruit is thus:

1). If and when a coach/staff member states there is a better way to do something you just did wrong, dont fight it, listen to them and always reply: "OK Coach, how do you want me to do that?" and do your best to do it their way whether you believe in it or not.

You have just showed that you are COACHABLE.....

2). Be respectful to everyone at the camp, DONT BRAG about how good you are, dont offer advice to another clinic participant on how to improve their game, ITS NOT YOUR JOB and neither time or place for that period.

    3) Listen more than you talk, concentrate on YOUR game, not anyone else's.....

4). ALWAYS, AND I MEAN ALWAYS, make EYE CONTACT when you talk to the coach/staff. dont stare into space or at their feet.....

another thing that I saw was a young lady refuse to use any other bat except her own......unfortunately, the coach didnt use that brand of bat and only wanted to see the girl swing his favorite brand. she should have jumped at the opportunity and extra attention paid to her by the coach.

Ladies, use your head, first impressions to a college coach are hard to reverse, make sure its memoriable in a good way

    Interview/stage

Players that are interested in going to next level should treat every ball game, clinic, workout around college coaches as being on stage being critiqued by talent scouts. Also, look at it as an interview for a very important job, one that could pay you thousands of dollars a year to lower the expense of a college education.
Players that do not want to go to the next level but want to be a better player should take advantage of all the teaching they can receive and appreciate that opportunity.
Common courtesy is to respect your elders, people with more experience or knowledge of a subject than you may have. Heck, just being a quality individual should mean you do not treat anyone with disrespect.
Cheese nice job! Good subject that needed to be on the board.:innocent:

This is probally the best advice that I have seen posted on this board, to many of the players of today have been told that they are great and that no one but there present coach knows any thing and dont listen to what other have to say.

    Great post cheeze

    Impressions....

....are kinda like grades in school. A kid can sit in the front row of a class and try hard to do well on tests, etc. and then they also try to participate in class discussions by asking questions that help a teacher reach out to all of the class. Sometimes, maybe a kid will ask what is "thought" to be a dumb question. The kid is asking for a teachers knowledge. If, say, that same kid sits on the back row, and does not participate in class discussions, and then has the same test grades,.....for example an 89 on a 10 point scale, when final grades are handed out, the 89 on the back row gets a B, and the 89 on the front row gets an A!
When it comes to being recruited, your attitude towards your coach, teammates, school work, determination, how you accept adversity like striking out, picking up your teammates, being on time, how you act in the parking lot before and after the game.....etc, etc. etc.
A good attitude is soooo important. So either sit on the front row in class and look your teacher/coach in the eye when you speak, or move to the back row and roll your eyes when something is discussed that "you already know".
    Nice thread Cheeze.
    Thanks Marlin

    And 1 more thing

If I may humbly add one thing to the big Cheeze's excellant list that may go unnoticed. (marketing is sort of my thing)

MAKE SURE YOU ARE EASILY IDENTIFIABLE TO THE COACHES WHO ARE WATCHING!

I bought my daughter several shirts from the eteamz web site we have with our team name on the front and her last name and jersey number on the back. We do not have names on the back of our regular jersey. And she only wore these at these type events. This way if a coach liked what they saw, she did not have to match a hand written number or something pinned on or like that up to a name, she could see it and remember it, and more importantly write it down.

Self promotion is helpful too. I was actually standing near some coaches at one event and I heard one coach ask "what is her number?" (they had put hand written numbers on each girl about 4" tall). Then my KT turned her back and the other coach said, "oh, that is KT". So I know this works.

This and ALL the things Cheeze said.

    Ty

Cheeze, when we visit these camps we need to keep in mind that the good lord gave us two eyes, two ears, and one mouth. To me that means we are supposed to look and listen twice as much as we talk.
