I think we need a thread for coaches to be able to give advice or share some drills they run in practice and etc.

Why would anybody do that ........ If your serious about your program and winning you wouldn't... I think that is why this thread is bare! :whistling:

I don't believe most coaches think they have to safeguard their secrets. Most coaches I've been around love to share their drills and other practice info. I think it's more a matter of not taking the time to post what you more or less believe everyone knows anyway.

I know if I had anything that I thought would be helpful in teaching the girls I would be glad to share it. When I can learn something from other coaches or players for that matter I'll jump right on it. It's not the one or two drills that make the difference, it's the overall program the coach uses that makes the difference.

At the HS level I know of several coaches that work with kids from different teams. I think they want to compete as much as they want to win! The more kids you work with the better you feel. I've been to many games where I felt good no matter who won. I tell the other team's players, that I know, that I hope each one of them hits one over the fence and that our team wins by one run.

There always has to be a bad apple in the bunch to give their 2 cents.

alright, here's one that is easy in the preseason. about 75% of the girls who come out for hs softball cannot throw the ball with any zip. it's generally due to no wrist snap or lack of loading the wrist prior to release.

here's a drill to help them create wrist strenght and the understanding of how important it is to load/cock your wrist prior to release

your need only a dish towel. for right hander, right knee on the ground, left knee bent forward with body at a 45 degree angle to target. glove hand pointed to target, towel in the right hand between the last two digits of the middle three fingers. with your throwing hand back behind your ear, your wrist should be cocked with the towel on the back side of your arm.

now, "throw" the towel, following through with your finish over the front side of the extended leg, and snap your wrist as you would a ball. the result should be a "pop" of the towel (like you did to everyone else in gym class). the stronger you get, the louder the pop.

this is a basic drill, but it also builds up wrist strength and focus's on the correct way to finish a throw.

cd said so......and i believe cd

ok so i'm in college right now, and we do tons of cone drills that aren't complicated, but the one thing that i don't think many hs or tb people think about is a drill called a grip circuit. this is were you break your team up into groups of four, and this would be best done in the weight room if possible. there are four stations and the girls will do each station for a minute then rotate within their group until they have been to each station twice. This is a major forearm burnout if done right. the first station is a set of 5 lb. dumbells and you hold your arms straight out rotating your wrists back and forth like salt and peper shakers while holding the weight. the second drill is wrist rollers were there is a light stick with a rope tied onto it with a 5 lb. weight on the other end. you roll your wrists till the weight is at the top then go back down, and you do this for the entire minute. the next station is grips this s were u have either 2 35 lb. plates or 25 lb. plates depending on how strong your girls are. the hold the side of the plate one in each hand were they have to keep their grip for the whole minute without dropping the plate. this is one of the harder stations for the girls with smaller hands, and make sre they don't grab the center of the plate were the whole is that is way too easy. the last station is reverse curls were you stand in front of a benchpress bar and hold the bar behind you while yourarms hang by your side, and simply roll your wrists up, and down. this drill needs no weight because the bar is alot harder than many may think. if done right this should strengthen your gurls arms for a better snap on the ball.
