What are some of the best and most effective hitting, fielding, or pitching drills that all you coaches do. I know you may not want to spill your big secrets, but lets talk about some. I think this could really be helpful for young players.

    hitting drills

Lots of pinto beans and a dow rod......no not to eat and scare the ump....LOL

sit on a bucket(wear glasses for safety) and pitch softtoss to the batters. You can substitute any bean or small object. The idea is to focus on the object and swing. We don't use game bats to keep from damage.

    Hope this helps!

    Caution!

I think most everyone understands this, but one thing you need to be careful of in any kind of drill, is players must be taught the correct way to swing, field and throw before you start just getting in a lot of reps. through drills.

Each skill should be broken down and drilled, then put it all together in yet more drills. Mike Candrea's, Jay Miller and Deb Hartwigs drills are the ones I have used over the years with the most success.

PM if you want more info.

    Amen Brother

Better wear those safty glasses. I once wore a black eye from a golf wiffle ball coming off of my DD's thunder stick. Come to think of it she seemed a little too proud that she gave her DD (darling dad) a shiner!

LONG TOSS! if you dont know what it is simply do a Google search. I have made it a point to ask individuals I have run across who played college baseball or softball or higher what they would do differently if they could do it all over again and 90%+ have said they would have worked harder on their arm strength.

Proper mechanics are of course a must and should be learned prior but nothing will make your arm stronger than 3 to 4 sessions per week of properly done long toss.

Its also a good test for the "want" in a player because you can do long toss regardless of the weather basically and let me speak from personal experience... if your player doesnt have the "want" everything else will not matter.

    Best wishes and good luck!
