Do they publish their revenues and expeses?

No idea - being involved with school booster club is what inclined me to provide the comment. People believe that booster club gets gate receipts and other when it actually goes back to school to cover similar items as stated previously. Actually at our school, get around $950 from school system run all sports so quite a bit of fund raising to cover all the costs.

As for having answers, if you believe that - my answer would be same as a 9 year old pitcher appearing to shake of pitch calls from catcher - "fooling em coach"

    NCHSAA Funding

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association, based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is a voluntary, nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization that administers the statewide high school athletic program for about 160,000 student-athletes in North Carolina. The Association has been in existence and serving the youth of this State since 1913 and is the largest pure form of amateur sports in North Carolina. The membership and participation figures continue to rise annually:
in the 2007-08 school year, their program served 375 schools and their 'family' consisted of over 160,000 student-athletes, 375 principals, 375 athletic directors, 12,000 coaches, 119 superintendents, and approximately 10,000 game officials.

By NCHSAA Board of Directors' directive, the NCHSAA is charged with ensuring that expenses associated with all state championship events
are completely underwritten by the host community.

The NCHSAA does not receive funding from the state. The NCHSAA revenues come from:
    • membership fees
    • corporate sponsorship dollars
    • gate receipts from playoff & championship games
    • $30,000 from the town of Chapel Hill
    • Raleigh Parks & Recreation ($40,000+) hosted eleven (11) North Carolina High School Amateur Athletic Championships with an estimated economic impact of $4.0 million.
    • Variety of Grants
My understanding is that Mudcat Stadium was donated and the parking fees were retained by the Mudcats to offset expenses associaed with staffing the event.

NC State was to be used for the 1A & 2A baseball championships but those danged Wolfpack baseball players hosted a regional. My understanding is that UNCG offered the use of their facility at no charge.

I hope this information helps to shed some light on why certain venues are selected. It all boils down to money. If other locations want to host state championship events, do what Raleigh and Chapel Hill does - provide the funding.

Writer's Note: As a member of the Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Greenways Advisory Board, I have 1st-hand knowledge of the events hosted by Raleigh Parks & Recreation. The Chapel Hill funding amount was provided to me as a courtesy.

I wonder if other cities are aware that hosting the tournament is open for bids?

If other areas do not know - I am sure they do noW :fight: Seriously, I recommend that those areas who are interested simply contact the NCHSAA. Specifically contact Karen DeHart, Director of Development - NC High School Athletic Association at (919) 962-2345.

Thanks CBS. I doubt that many people in Charlotte knew. They are so busy worrying about Nascar, Panthers or Bobcats that High School is far down the list of interest. BUT...with the new baseball stadium being built downtown, I'm sure the Chamber of Commerce would more than welcome the families and supporters of HS Championship teams. That's good to know.

Plus, with all the power that Cliff Mehrtens has, he can have the Charlotte Observer underwrite the costs. :lipsrsealed2:

That's what I'm here for :xyxthumbs:

BTW, it was Larry Davidson that said you were "Mr. Jingles"---the story goes that your so wealthy, you can hear the money jingling in your pocket from the next building. But I think it's Larry that has the "alligator arms". :hallo:

OK I like the Cary idea but here are some problems you face....

    1. It couldn't all be on the same weekend because that would be to many teams playing and plus who would get rights to be on the main field and if some teams didn't play on the main field, parents and schools would get upset over that and complain.

    2. What about the independent teams like Latin or Catholic? Where would they play and why leave them out?

I believe that either Charlotte(once new stadium is built) and or Raleigh.

Braves, your idea of the game in your backyard is a good idea but covering up the fishing hole would be bad. But you could also put the stands right behing the water hole and fish and watch a ball game, not a bad idea.
