South Caldwell Football

    I know the sports story of the year will be the 80-some World Series curse of the Boston Red Sox. But in prep circles, I think alot of notice needs to goto the football Spartans of South Caldwell.

    South Caldwell has been a joke for so long in football in the unifour its crazy. I know for a fact that this is the first playoff birth for them since returning to the NW4A in 2001 and I cannot remember them ever making it past round 1 of the playoffs when they were 3A. They are usually the doormat of Caldwell County but defeated Hibriten and West Caldwell both this year. Remember, Hibriten was the Regional runner-up in 2A last year.

    I am a realist. I know the Spartans are facing Goliath next week in Davie County but for right now congratulations for the ride thus far to Butch Carter, Head Coach of the Spartans. Also congrats to the least known 1000 yard gainers in NC: QB Casey Justice (passing); RBs Bobby White and Justin Cannon (rushing).

    FWIW, I was more impressed with South Caldwell than any other team in the NW4A. Extremely balanced offensively, good, tough runners that run hard and don't let a blade of grass tackle them, and what seems to be very good coaching. There are some questions on defense, or at least in my opinion, but still fairly solid there too. Congratulations on a very good year. It was well earned.

    If you knew what was going on at SC you'd ignore how good DC is and just get caught up in the moment. This is a great time for SC. Win or lose against DC, they've already won. A tremendous story. The circumstances at SC are why many coaches do what they do. It's just incredible.

    :laugh1: How nice to read this post and see the wonderful comments
    about our coaches and players :applause: for those of us who has lived
    in this community all our lives, this ride has been wonderful..and no matter
    what happens in Davie County this friday...hats off to the players and
    coaches at SCHS. They are worked so hard and this is sooooooooo
    well deserved.....thanks guys....we love you.......... :applause: :applause: :applause:

    Just wanted to wish the Spartans well Friday. Ya'll have done a great job turning around your program and we hope you continue your success. :xyzthumbs In my honest opinion your coach is the conference coach of the year, although I am sure he will not get the actual award for it though. OH well, good luck Friday, as you have a HUGE task in front of you.

    whether he wins an award or not............................
    it was Coach Carter who has installed the bigger, faster, stronger,
    program in our school,,,which has made such a change in our
    athletic program..... :xyzthumbs thanks for your kind words........

    Good Luck from a Cougar fan. You guys have done what we have done, turn a program around. We will always be rivals, but we are pulling for you @ Davie County.
