    My son recently tried out for the new South Charlotte Panthers 16U team. Although we certainly do not assume that he will be offerered a spot on the team, in the event an invitation is extended I would be interested in hearing opinions regarding the "pros" and/or "cons" of playing for the Panthers. I know a number of posters are familiar with this program, and their insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

    The South Cahrlotte Panthers are a class act. In my opinion the best overalll team in North Carolina this past year. They go after quality players, play in quality events, and expose their players to scouts and coaches at the next level as good as anyone.
    My son has played against the Panthers many times over the years, and you will not find a classier bunch of players and coaches.

    Heard nothing but good things about the South Charlotte Panthers. Don and his coaching staff do a great job of getting their players in front of the right people.

    If your son gets the chance to play with these guys he will be part of a Class organization.

    Great group of people! They are very well coached and they always have very talented players. And these guys play hard. I would disagree with the statement they were the best overall team in NC this year though. But that is for another thread. They are one of the best in NC every year and one of the best in the nation as well. If your going to play showcase baseball you can not go wrong with playing for these guys. Good Luck

    My son played for the Panthers for three years, up through this last summer. Always more of a "role player" on the Panthers - not a Div. I prospect - he left on very good terms after realizing that playing college baseball wasn't likely for him. The Panthers provided a wonderful practice, play, and travel experience for our son, and we will be forever indebted to Don for the opportunity.

    A couple observations to respond to your question:
    Pros:
    - Everything said above - emphasis on Class of leadership, coaching, and talent.
    - A national reputation for talent and competitiveness;
    - Opportunity to play top competition;
    - A Team-first philosophy, no primadonnas allowed;
    - High expectations for development - as baseball players and as young men. (Strict rules for academics, behavior, appearance, and diet when travelling).
    - Benevolent dictatorship - no parent politics.
    - A fantastic group of parents who support the team and do whatever it takes to keep things running smoothly.

    Cons (for former Panthers):
    - A Team-first philosophy, no primadonnas allowed;
    - High expectations for development - as baseball players and as young men. (Strict rules for academics, behavior, attire and diet when travelling).
    - Benevolent dictatorship - no parent politics. (No you don't get a vote.)

    Keep in mind these are my observations from the 06/07 Panthers - overall the best baseball "Team" (parents and coaches included) I know. I hope the 09s turn out as well.
