I will not even begin to try and break down our conference the Mid State 3-A conference. Im sure I would leave someone out and no doubt butcher some names. So I will give a little report on our team for this year and then maybe some other coaches can add their teams information.

    Sr's
Chris Luck 6'3" 180 RHP SS - Luck did not pitch untill late last year due to a sore elbow earlier in the year. Healthy now for the first time since his Freshman season he is a upper 80's guy that can reach low 90's. A 6.8 runner who is extremely athletic. Luck has tremedous power at the plate but needs to be more consistent this season. He hit .298 with 8 hr's last year. Luck was all conference last season.

Josh Peyton 5'11" 175 OF P - Peyton did not play last year due to academic reasons. Peyton will play OF this season and pitch as well. Peyton is a very good hitter with power to all fields. He has good speed in the 7.1 range and is athletic as well. He is a low 80's guy on the hill with outstanding command of three pitches. He should really bolster the lineup especially on the offensive side.

Matt Cannaday 5'10" 155 OF - Cannaday started last year in the outfield and played outstanding defense all year long. Matt has improved alot since last season at the plate.

Jon Perry 5'9 150 2B - Perry started every game last year at 2b and made one error in 29 games. He is an outstanding defensive player and made all conference last season.

    Jr's
Pratt Maynard 6'0 210 RHP 3B - Maynard will most likely be the #2 guy on the hill this year and when he is not on the hill play 3B. Pratt hits from the left side and had a very good year last season hitting .378 with 9 HR's and 29 RBI's. Pratt is a middle 80's guy that can reach the upper 80's. He is extremely strong and has worked very hard in the off season. We look for him to have a big Jr year. Pratt was all conference last season

Nash Blackley 6'3 190 RHP OF - Blackley transferred in from Kerr Vance Academy. Nash is a middle 80's guy from the hill and will play outfield. Nash has power at the plate and along with Peyton should add some offense to the line up this season. He pitched in the 86-87 range at the recent Perfect Game national showcase in Ft Meyers Florida and was named to the top prospect team.

Keith Goodwin 6'0" 170 1B - Goodwin started every game last year at 1B and is and outstanding defensive first baseman. Keith was a little spotty at the plate last year but he was young. We look for Keith to have a good year at the plate this season.

Josh Robbins 5'8" 145 OF - Josh played right field last year and started 15 games. He is outstanding on the defensive side and has worked real hard on improving himself at the plate.

Jeff May 6'2" 205 Catcher - Jeff started all 29 games last year. He hit .524 with 10 HR's and 44 RBI's. With addition of Blackley and Peyton in the line up May "could" have another great year at the plate. The second half of the season he walked 16 times with 9 IBB's. Defensively he was outstanding throwing out 9 of 11 baserunners with one passed ball on the season. May was co conf POY and All State.

Justin Norwood 6'1" 185 1B C DH - Justin did not see alot of playing time last season. Hopefully he will be able to see more action this season. Justin was invaluable in the bull pen and he also was a DR during the season.

    Soph
Josh Darroach 5'11" 175 RHP 3B - Josh was our #3 pitcher last year as a Freshman and did an outstanding job. He is a middle 80's guy that has really improved during the off season. He played some 3b last season and was very good defensively. Josh has shown alot of improvment at the plate and should have a good soph season.

Robbie Rapplee 6'0" 180 OF - Robbie was a big surprise last season. He worked his way into the line up and started several games in the of. He hits from the left side and really gets out of the box. He is really a big strong kid for his age and has a ton of potential.

These are the returning players with the exception of Blackley. Other players have the opportunity to emerge in the spring and hopefully they will. If our pitching produces like it has the ability to do and we get some production from the lower half of the order we could have a pretty good team this season.

Hey Coach27 how about sharing the wealth? Can't you spare an arm or bat or two for an old conference foe here in RR? HA HA.

It looks like you have the opportunity to have another outstanding season. Best of luck to you and the rest of the South Granville Baseball Program.

PRETTY GOOD, that's an understatement if I ever heard one. This is a state championship contender. A class act all the way from the coaching staff to the players to the parents. This is a perfect example of doing things the right way and the rewards you reap for those efforts. I hope to see you play some especially against those Rockets, but it will depend on how the schedules shake out with the Bulldogs. Good luck and I wish you all the best.

I agree "pretty good" is a definite understatement. South Granville should be in the Top 10 in the preseason 3A poll. Lots of experience, great arms, solid defense, offensive firepower, and a super coaching staff highlight the makeup of the Vikings. I am sure we are in for some more awesome games with you guys this year. 4 times we got to go at it last year and each one was a close game. Should be entertaining for the fans this year as well.

What a game this should be!

These two teams will be big, talented and powerful. Both should be in the preseason 3A polls.

An excellent mix of power, speed and flat out talent!! With a staff of Luck, Maynard and Blackley, and May behind the plate, Kevin Ferrell and Kenny May will have an easy time making out a lone up. To go with top notch pitching, these guys have some players that can flat out hit it!! They will have the potential to score more than enough runs to cover this pitching staff. What's even better is that their remaining players have been dedicated in their off season conditioning and preparation program, a coach's dream. (BTW... bet you did not know my hidden camera amongst the pines have caught all this hard work... LOL) While the marquee kids can play, other exceptional players such as Jon Perry (an awesome young man and excellent player in his own right) will fit nicely into their puzzle and provide steady play in crucial roles. These kids are committed and I hope they win all their games (except 2, of course).

    Coach Evans,
I also hope SG wins every game they play but 2. Except that my 2 are probably different from your 2. They have to be considered one of the 3a favorites.

    Hey SoutherNo1,

You know Coach has been hanging out with Braves....Coach will probably tell you he just hopes they can keep their games close this year and win 1 or 2.....not to say Coach would "sandbag" or anything like that.:mdrbig:
