I do know a lot about the program, I went to SM, had a son play there several years ago, a little before Braves son did, but I still follow the program closely, and believe it or not, care about it. I do not jump ship. I bleed red and black, and always will. You may not like me, or my comments, but I speak from the heart and say what others are afraid to say, but want to. There are a lot of good boys left at that school and in the years to come. I just hope, with all my heart that SM found a coach that can truly teach the game. A coach that is not in it just for a little extra paycheck.

From what i have heard from a few people, this guy is the real deal, just happened to have to coach golf and hated it. The school he coached at was a large school, so he should adjust well. Your fall program would be a concern with him coaching football also. But with a great group of parents, it should be OK.

Sbelle, I hope it did not strike a nerve, if it did, sit back and enjoy this last year with your son, or you could be on here like me years later, griping about your coach. I am just happy for the change at SM.

From the sound of things, a fall program for the south boys will not be an issue. The coach is involved with the football program there and is commited to it but his heart is with baseball and he will make a fall program happen. I wouldn't bet agianst this team in the making.

I understand parents' feelings about this big change. I really do. But.....:imagestor

trust me, you could have it a lot worse. Many of us - with the situations our programs are in - would trade places with you in a heartbeat.

Just try to keep a little perspective and let things play out. Hopefully, your new coach will be competent, enthusiastic, willing to communicate, and eager to continue the tradition you have there. Good luck.

I find all this very concerning, as I have a rising freshman starting this month, and was not aware of any meeting. Not the best way to get things started in a positive way. Was told yesterday (from two well know coaches in the area) that this guy is the real deal, but.......these coaches will be his opposition this year as well. Way too early to be judgemental, but still a very BIG concern!

Anybody that went to this meeting, please fill in the less fortunate that weren't aware of it. :banginghe

Just a few thoughts regarding a few posts:
You can have a successful baseball program while coaching football. I personally experienced it for several seasons. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, coaches 2 sports for the "extra" paycheck. (Unless you consider what amounts to about $1.00/hr or less extra $$!) Coaches put an extraordinary amount of time into their seasons outside of the hours spent at practice. Give this guy a chance - perhaps nobody in the area wanted to take this position on - it's hard to step into a program like SM. Be a good parent and/or fan and support the team - which includes the coach! :woohoo:

    Spoken like a true coach's...err....supporter:D

Seriously, I agree with you Observer. It's just a little awkward when there were many deserving coaches in our area who have patiently waited for an opportunity...and there were some very talented coaches outside of Charlotte that wanted this position. I'm a loyal guy...and I feel those guys should have received the opportunity.

But having said that, I hope the new coach does well...I'm certainly pulling for him.

Another strange turn of events at South. Mike Jones (no not the music artist many of our kids may know) has been anounced as the new AD. I dont get it, why spend the time to go get all these new coaches form out of state to in turn, bring in the former Harding football coach as AD, i cant explain this move other then to note that Collins was a former coach at Harding and has ties with their program. Many of us were not pleased with Collins as AD. What can we expect now with one of his buddies at the relm?:77321_bs:
