Haven't seen any thoughts on the 2012 SCC yet but would love to get it rolling....I have started with some very basic thoughts with my limited knowledge so please fill in as needed.

Conference champ Marvin Ridge lost 9 Seniors including their entire (very speedy) outfield, but returns Coastal Carolina commit Tyler Chadwick. Will be interesting to see if his supporting cast can step up around him. Derek Smith should step up into a much bigger role in the middle. I would expect Coach Minnett will have a very motivated group on the field for every game regardless.

Sun Valley returns Jordan Watts on the mound and all conference player Kenny Palmer to the outfield. They will continue to be a competitive force in the conference.

Weddington brings back a very strong slate as they only lost 2 starting Sr's and return the entire infield including Naval Academy commit Peydon Honeycutt at SS, UNCC commit Jeremy Schellhorn at 1st. Although they lost conference MVP Jordan Newsome on the mound they will have Clemson commit Alex Bostic along with Schellhorn to fill the void. This team is set up for a great year on paper.

Porter Ridge. I believe they lost all conf players Hayden Flores and Luke Kwasnik, but I don't know how they are looking as they reload.

Parkwood and Anson.....(someone please fill in)

Two weeks to go. Can't wait.

Don't forget about Ryan Smith. He will be a force to deal with for Sun Valley. Not sure about the rest of the staff, but you better have a solution for Smith.

    3 conference games a week!!

I think the big question for the league is.....who has the pitching depth to play 3 games a week. Each team will have a solid #1 and #2 pitcher. But what happens when he leaves the mound? Who is prepared with a deep relief staff?

With MR losing 9 seniors, how many were pitchers? Some big shoes to fill on this roster. No doubt they will be ready to play. Coach Mennitt's team will be prepared, but do they have the arms to play 3 games a week?

Sun Valley lost a number of solid pitchers. Watts, Smith among others will be required to pick up the load, but who is there to take the ball when they have to leave the mound?

Weddington lost a big arm in Newsome. However they do have some very capable arms to take up the innings. Bostic, Collins, Shellhorn, will get the lions share. I see seniors Pope, Barrelli, and Peydon Honeycutt getting some innings.

The big question for all of these teams is, will the relief staff be able to come through?

    Pitching IS the key!

It appears that Weddington is off to a great start with the pitching. Coming off a solid (albeit scrimmage) game with Providence, Schellhorn (5 innings), Pope (3 innings), and Bostic (with a 3 K 9th inning)combine to keep AK scoreless. This is a big deal for each of these three pitchers. There are no easy outs in the AK line up.

Great job by each of these young pitchers.

Sean Collins with the hit up the middle to score the winning run in the top of the 9th.

    Sun Valley starts with win

    from other post.

    Sun Valley 11
    AL Brown 2

Jordan Watts picks up the win on the mound. Kenny Palmer 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI.

Can someone confirm if Kenny is committed to play at the next level? heard rumor but don't know?

PR has Sergio Patsy and Drew Moore returning from last years pitching staff, both have looked good in pre-season. The have a young but talented infield including returning starters sophomores Jake Sullivan and CJ Fernandez and returning junior Hunter Edwards. They will be competitive and may surprise a few.

Anybody have any results from Parkwood or Anson? I know they should have played games by now according to their schedules. Porter Ridge was supposed to open today.

Looks like some good ball is being played by a number of teams.

MR got off to a slow start, but comes back with nice wins against Piedmont and Charlotte latin. 2-2

SV looks to be swinging the bat well posting 11 runs and 9 runs in the 1st 2 games this season. 2-1

PR is off to a 3-1 start with wins against Hough, Rocky River and Piedmont.

Weddington is off to a good start as well with wins against AK and Charlotte Christian. 2-2

One more week until conference play begins.
