Thats why your book isnt a best seller

as for throwing at a batter.
Well i'm not a copperhead coach but if i'm pitching and there is a squeeze on .. the ball is going straight to the batter... he either better get out of the way or get hit.. at least i dont give up a run...

Just because they get ejected doesnt make the program any less...
If your going to be a coach at this level or higher your going to get some ejections from time to time.. and sometimes tempers will flare..
If you want your kid to play powder puff baseball and not be subject to yelling , cussing, and anger, you better get him out of college baseball ..

Better be ready for some repercussions when you instruct your college players to be throwing AT THE HEAD. I'm not talking at the leg, or an arm, or hand.

I do know the Copperheads were rained out in Asheville , and that game was moved to Tennessee's field, but also rained out.

I KNOW what a Copperhead Coach said and where he said to hit the player (in the head). When asked by a SCBL player if that is what he really meant...he replied yes...to which the player said that is not part of baseball. Those are facts, not "my thinking." I re-state, I and many others, have not seen FIRST CLASS anywhere in this program (well, except maybe for the young men actually PLAYING the REAL game).

Since my own son is playing in the SCBL(Aggies), I naturally have been interested in this thread. I only have a couple of observations to offer.

I have to agree. That also extends to the other teams as well. Yeah.....I've seen some antics from some coaches and players, but nothing I would qualify as "low class". Most of it has been "just baseball". What you have to remember is, many times coaches get thrown out of games on purpose.....for a reason. You also have to remember that these players are young men not little boys. Their language, attitudes and level of play all reflect that, although some of them may have a bout with immaturity sometimes.....but so do "old men".

I don't know the Copperhead coach nor do I know this perticular situation, but when I showed this thread to my son he got a good laugh(he's a catcher). The truth is, at the college and even the HS level batters ARE thrown at.....for a reason. The intent isn't always to hit the batter, but to make him do something the opposing coach, pitcher, or catcher wants him to do. Like Intimidator Coach eluded to.......the idea of throwing at a batter's head on a squeeze play isn't to hit him, but to make him get out of the way instead of bunting....thus leaving the runner from 3rd hung out to dry. Hitting the batter in this case would accomplish nothing. You throw at his head to allow him to get out of the way....i.e. duck. If you throw at his legs a good hitter will take the lick and trot down to 1st. The important thing for the batter to remember is, don't show bunt too soon.

Now....all that being said....I don't like to see pitchers deliberately throw at hitters because they're angry. That's definately not part of the game. On the other hand.....sometimes messages are sent....again....for a reason.

mamaslam, like it or not, it IS part of the game....maybe not the best part....but still part. If your son lives and breathes this game like my son then I'll bet he'll tell you the same thing. Just remember.....if he's earned the right to play on a college team....he knows what he's doing out there just like everybody else.
