This should be a great year for this conference. Weddington , Ardrey Kell , Butler , Providence , South Meck , East Meck , Myers Park and Independence.

This conference could put one heck of an all star team on the field by itself. Im predicting that the SW8 4A Conference is going to very competitive this year. Im going with

    #1 Ardrey Kell
    #2 Weddington
    #3 Providence
    #4 Butler

Butler took it last year. I bet they wont like this post. I dont expect Providence and Weddington will either. But thats why they play the games right? I like Ardrey Kell to make a serious run this year. But winning this conference is going to be a heck of a challenge.

Every year this has been a tremendously talented conference and this year will be no exception.

Since Ardrey Kell had no seniors last year, they return everybody from an amazing 1st year 18 win season. They have also added one of the premiere lefties in the state in Alex Wood. This team will be prepared to win every game, but how the team will handle the pre-season hype will determine how well they will do. I would like to give a shoutout to their catcher, Johnny Eaker..one of my all time favorite players. What makes him so good is that he just "gets the job done".

Providence lost 11 seniors, but they return a bevy of starters and a group of very talented young players. It's become a cliche to say they are reloading, but it is true.

Weddington underachieved with the talent they had. They should have been competing for the #1 spot. They have a new coach in Travis Poole and he is highly regarded by everyone connected to baseball. Although they lost some key players, I expect Coach Poole to get the most out of his players.

Butler is Butler. They are always talented, but you never know how well they will do. Coach Cousar holds his cards to his vest tighter than Dbacks holds his wallet. I suspect they will compete at a top level again this year. With all of the key seniors they lost, the cupboard is still full.

Myers Park is always the most underrated team every year. This year is no exception. They have pitching, fielding, hitting and depth. Coach Simmons has continued a consistent successful program and he has "stars" that have been though the battle. Don't be surprised to see this team reach the summit.

East Meck is returning to playoff form. It is a very young team but with very talented youngsters to compete. It is led by one of the best HS coach's in the state with Chet Greeson. He is one of the finest teachers of the game. I believe they will be in the middle of the pack with the following year being the breakout season.

South Meck is still loaded with talented players. After going through some growing pains last year, their 2nd year coach has a better idea of what it takes to compete in this conference. The Sabres showed signs of how good they could be, this year I think they will play like it.

Independence had a nightmare year last year. They started out as a contender, had personal issues, and ended it as a pretender. They have a new coach, return some experience and talented players, but I have no idea or feel about how they will do. I hope we can get some Indy supporters on here this year to keep us updated.

east meck suffers from lack of pitching. heard over the weekend one of the guys they were counting on to pick up some innings this year had his knee cleaned up last week. will definitely affect the preseason and early season routine.

East's pitching will be improved this season, just young. Their top pitcher should be sophomore Olen Little (6'2-185). He had a patella tendon tear during football. Not sure how extensive his surgery was last week, but the last time I talked to Coach Greason, he thought Olen could be available by March.

I'm making this post for my friends at Providence. There has been some kind of misunderstanding where I have been told that I predicted Providence to finish in 3rd place.

Let me be perfectly clear; apparently somebody has been sampling the old South Meck Swamp Juice. I said they would finish in 2nd behind AK, BUT.....they play a very difficult schedule in the beginning of the season, so they will be ready come conference time. Don't pay any attention to their won/loss record before conference; it doesn't mean a thing. They'll be battle tested and ready for the conference wars, and if some of their rising young pitchers come through...ya better watch out!

I can't believe with all the dadgum S. Charlotte people that read this board that we haven't had more replies. Either they are shy or they believe everything I said....which is scary considering I didn't say anything.

C'mon Myers Park, Butler and SM supporters, where are ya?????????????

Rate em, rank em, put your money wherever.......but AK is going to be tough to beat with all their pitching (plus additions) back, all starters returning with a year of experience under their belts.....Bags already has them working hard getting ready for the season.

The SW4A will be as tough as ever but I'm going with AK as the early favorite. :rifle:
