    Kannapolis Scrimmage

(Thanks to J. Moore for providing info:)
Game #1: Kannapolis vs Sun Valley at Sun Valley High School
Dylan May (Senior) started for Kannapolis and what a job he did. Dylan threw 14 pitches for three consecutive strike outs in the first inning. In the second inning he threw 13 pitches that started with a throw out at first and the next two batters struck out. In the third inning, Dylan threw another 14 pitches for three consecutive strike outs.
Jesse Klepper (Freshman) took the mound in the fourth inning. His first batter hit a fly ball to right-field for a double. The second batter hit a fly-ball to center-field but this time Quinn Gill may a beautiful throw from mid center-field to the catcher for the first out at home plate. It took Jesse Klepper six more batters to get out of this inning. Unfortunately, Sun Valley was able to put three runs on the board in the fourth inning.
Ryan Blackmon (Senior) took the mound in the fifth inning. Ryan did a great job in placing the ball causing the first batter to pop fly to left-field for the first out. He struck out the second batter, the third batter hit a grounder to third and unfortunately the throw was late to first but Ryan forced the next batter to pop fly to right-field for third out. Ryan threw 11 pitches in the fifth inning and continued pitching in the sixth inning with 22 pitches being thrown in that inning.
Hayden Taylor (Freshman) pitched the final two innings of this game. He looked a little nervous and struggled with getting strikes. He allowed two runs in the seventh inning and two more runs in the eighth inning. I will say that this was a great learning experience for him and he should become more confident with each game he is allowed to pitch in
Kannapolis struggled in the first four innings with batting. Once a pitching change was made in the fifth inning, Kannapolis started playing smart with the pitcher and allowed two walks and a Hit-By-Pitch to put three runners on base. Quinn Gill hit a Home Run over the fence in left-field scoring three runs. Kannapolis ended up scoring eight runs in the fifth inning allowing them to take back control of this game.

Game #2: Kannapolis vs Indian Land High School
Zach Jones (Senior) started this game with the batter striking out and the next thrown out at first base. The next two batters were allowed on base with hits to the out-field. Zach struck out the fifth batter to end this ending. The second inning was even better with only the first batter being allowed on base with a pop fly to left-field but Zach stuck the next batter with a grounder to first for the first out and then struck out the final two batters. The third ending was over with three batters and eight pitches. What a great job by Zach and his team mates.
Eldon Peters (Sophomore) took the mound in fourth inning and what a great job he and his teammates did. First batter was able to get on base due to an error at third base but Eldon kept his eye on this runner while he was pitching to the second batter and was able to make a pickoff move to the second baseman who then was able to tag the runner out. Eldon ended up striking out the second batter and then causing the third batter to pop fly to left-field for the third out. Eldon returned to the mound in fifth ending and was able to get three outs with eleven pitches and the help of his infield.
Trace Hagler (Freshman) took the mound in the sixth inning and did a superior job With only nine pitches thrown, Trace was able to get the first two batters out with throw outs to first base and then struck out the third batter to end the inning.
Caleb Jackson (Junior) closed the game in the seventh inning throwing nineteen pitches to four batters. Caleb struck out the first batter and then allowed the second batter to pop fly to right-field to get on first base. But Caleb and the infield held strong and were able to throw out the next two batters at first to end the game.
Kannapolis did a great job of shutting out Indian Land with a total of 93 pitches being thrown by all four pitchers. I also want to give it up to the outfield and the infield players this week in both games. As stated in last week's scrimmage games, We knew it was going to take some time for the young men to get back in the groove of fielding and batting. My hat goes off to the coaches and the players for putting in some hard work this past week and it showed in the way they played this past weekend.
Kannapolis did a fair job in this game in regards to their batting . They allowed five strike outs while only getting on base 13 times during the game. Three of those were because of hit-by-pitches. Hopefully the bats will become better during the season.
    Wonders 5 - Indian Land (SC) 0

    TIME CHANGE

Just found out JV game with Carson has been canceled and Varsity game has been moved from 7pm to 4:30 this afternoon to try and beat weather. Game is still being played at NW.

CM did have a JV last year, didn't do so hot, but I do not belive that they were the future of that program since the entire Varsity team is still all Juniors this year for the most part.

It is true that May can beat anyone on any given day, but he can also emplode and give up 6 at any given moment. have seen him break down without run support. his infield will not help him that much.

there are very few pitchers, if any, that this statement hasn't held true at sometime in their career so he is not alone. (well at least the imploding part. :)

NW-1 Carson-1, bottom 3rd inning, game called due to weather. Saw 2 good teams (for 3 innings at least), both pitchers looked good considering it being early. Hate the game couldn't be played out. 2 things that stood out: 1) Seager hit a line drive off right field fence that was hit so sharply it probably bounced off the wall before he got out of batter's box, and 2) NW set the standard for the rest of the county serving up best hotdog to tj21 I've had in quite awhile. Overall, a short night at the ballpark, but a bad night at the ballpark is still better than a good night doing anything else.

jd, keep me posted if they reschedule this nonconf matchup.

btw, May's a very good pitcher, obviously any pitcher needs help from his mates.

just to ensure clarity on my statement---I was agreeing and just stating that all pitchers can implode so he is not alone.

Rumor has it that they are going to resume play tomorrow at 4:30. I have my doubts about that. The field at NW has never drained well but I give both coaches props for at least trying to finish the game.

    Several thoughts...

MP vs West Rowan rescheduled to Wed.
Several pro scouts who had came for the game stayed around for BP by a couple of the MP seniors.

Observation: The SPC has put out lots of college tallent in the past year or so and the trend should continue for several more to come. Probably a couple of kids drafted over the next couple of years.

In my opinion Dillon May is one of the best 2011 pitchers in NC period. Right up there with all the signed and soon to be drafted guys. His string of unfortunate injuries have cost him, but on any given day he's one of the best. He is a tough tough kid. Good academics also by the way.

On the SPC food front.. NW - hotdogs
    MP - popcorn
    Robinson - Nachos w/extra jalapenos
    Central - biggest menu around...from
    cheese fries to chicken tenders

57 K's in 28.2 innings, last year...2 per inning avg and allowed only 17 hits. That's a dominating pitcher that any team would take, just curious, when was the break down and why won"t his infield help him?
