    Kannapolis 6 Concord 2

AL Brown celebrated senior night with a big win over Concord. Dylan May hit a 3 run homer and a double, while Ryan Blackmon added a solo shot...both seniors. Senior Zach Jones went 6 strong innings, allowing 2 runs (1 ER) and Seniors Justin Kidd along with Tyler Freeze both had big hits as well.

Corey Smith homered for the Spiders.

    What if?

Watching the NW/Cox Mill game last night I couldn't help but wonder about the team NW could have fielded if Cox Mill hadn't been built. I think NW would have been a powerhouse not only in 3A, but in all of baseball in NC and possibly beyond.

Concerning state playoffs, we've already witnessed a preview of the western finals. A 2nd meeting will take place in a few weeks.

Potential SPC Playoff Matchups (Current Standings)

The SPC got a tough draw this year in First Round games, potential matchups include according to current standings:

    #2 SCC Weddington
    #3 SPC JM Robinson

    #1 SPC NW Cabarrus
    #4 MPC N Forsyth

    #2 SPC Hickory Ridge
    #3 NPC W Iredell

    #1 SCC Marvin Ridge
    #5 SPC Central Cabarrus

    #4 SPC Mount Pleasant
    #2 NPC Carson

Of course the SPC seedings will probably change completely by the end of next week, but just an idea of the opponents we could face. W. Iredell is a really good team (beat E Rowan 12-4), but once again has to make a really long road trip to face a SPC team. Weddington and Marvin Ridge are really good and battle tested. Carson is another dangerous team going 3-2 against SPC opponents this year, losing to NWC 5-4 and Robinson 9-8, but they are 9-1 at home, with the only home loss to East Rowan. I have no idea about N Forsyth..?

Last year all 5 SPC teams had good showings with 3 teams advancing to the second round and MP gave E Rowan all they could handle in District losing 4-2 after leading for most of the game. NWC made us all proud by advancing to the Western Finals before losing a classic battle to East Rowan 2-1.

IMO, the SPC has 4 really strong teams at the top who could make it deep into the playoffs. I also expect a "darkhorse" to make a run in the conference tourney, any predictions?

According to the peliminary brackets ER and NWC would face off in the District Round, if they advance that far. Mega7 #1 and Southern Carolina #1 are in the bottom part of the bracket. Wouldn't surprise me to see NPC#2 Carson or SPC#2 JMR/HR make a run to the finals. Also Marvin Ridge and Weddington are really strong and never count out MP to make a late run.

    Cabarrus Rowan Challenge Tournament

I know "LOLLIE" started a thread on this already, but figured somebody here knows something? Kannapolis will be in school that week and I've heard their first game will be against Carson on Thursday, I have looked everywhere for info. Anybody? :frusty:

Hickory Ridge wins at Robinson 2 to 1. Scoreless ballgame until 6th with 2 outs and Tyler Graham on 1st after a walk Jake Barbee hits a double scoring Graham. Armando Castenda Doubled next scoring Barbee with what became the winning run. Blake Sides pitched out of trouble in the bottom half and Travis Baucom came in to pitch the 7th. Robinson loaded the bases with no outs run scored on a forceout at 2nd and Baucom struck out the final 2 batters to close it out. Think that is right someone correct me if not. Great game on a great night for baseball.
