Poor choice of a word but I agree with your message. Some people have for their goal winning at all costs. I think there are much better memories when players are developed for the most part together.

A good coach will take a stacked team to a higher level. I know last yr of a HS team, very capable of winning state. Had the talent but didn't have the coach, playoffs came and poor decisions made by coach, end of story.
    Coach is VERY important !!!!

You can have the best talent and the best coach and still not win! Your chances will be better but that's it.

I've coached many games and been a spectator at a whole lot more and I can tell you the best coaches hang around just outside the fence near home plate and in the bleachers. Bad thing is when you need them to make a game decision it never comes until the next day.

Amen to that..if we're not talking about the same school, then we have something in common! I hope it doesn't happen again, and i have noone involved with it, but it can very well happen to us again, as this team here is well equipped with talent again for 2009, but they have 2 coaches that have no idea what to do in pressure situations. Someone with travel experience could take this group and go a very long way. So yes, you can go only so far with these stacked teams, but you better know how to coach.

There are a lot of stacked teams out there, but you may never know it. The good thing is that you do not have to win all the time to get noticed. Nobody, I repeat...nobody, wins every game. If you win 75 percent of the time you are great. If you win 50% of the time you are in the same category as the 75% winner. If you win less than 50% you are not stacked, but that doesn't mean you are not noticed. This is not rocket science...play hard and work hard and everything will take care of itself. All any coach can ask is that a kid work at their game and try all the time. If a kid gets left behind then it is up to the coach to communicate with the parents and kid and attempt to find the kid a good place for their skill set. The biggest failure of coaches that I see is communication. It is unbelievable how far a little communication can take a team and how so few coaches are willing and/or able to do it.
