I'll attempt to guide ya'll back on topic.

Showcase tournaments are about the GIRLS!!! It is not about the COACHES, the PARENTS, or the UMPIRES!!! A coach that stalls is making the game about himself, not about the girls.

Good showcases will have free substitution, no arguing calls, no stalling, innings starting with a different scenario, etc.

I would even like to see college coaches tell the team "Hey, I would like to see so & so at this position."

I'll close by reiterating....IT IS ABOUT THE GIRLS!!!

    Coaches

Our players tell coaches to let us know if they are there to see them play and we will get them in if it is there time to sit. We want the coaches to see the kids at a time that works for them as long as it does not totally disrupt our chemistry. If it is a problem, we will talk to college coach and work out a time that works for them.

......nice post Treck. Nobody is trying beat you up brother, we're just experts on everything and we like to make that clear to folks who post interesting, informative and quality stuff as you have done.

This thread is about stalling in a showcase game....and the majority of TBR, if not all TBR users agree that it sucks and there should be no place for it period.

"Confusing" as you post means "missing interpretation".
I can see that, and alls good from this point forward.

    analogy

Good analogy or situation I came up with today to emphasize the different mentality that coaches and players must have in a showcase vs a tournament. And it the reason why I tell my girls in a showcase to play every inning like it is 0-0.

Bottom of 6th you are up 5-1 and a runner on 2nd. UNC is there to see your centerfielder. You have told Coach Papa she has a cannon for an arm. Base hit up the middle, runner gets a good jump and is headed for home. Any throw will be close. Now in a tournament game, the CF should probably throw it to 2nd, allow the run to score and keep the 2nd runner out of scoring position. But in a showcase, I want her to let it rip and go for the play at the plate. That is what I meant by playing like you don't know the score.

Thanks for the recent back up. I took a beating, but it was from things out of context.

I can tell you right now, if you stall in a showcase game or meaningless warm-up game against me, I will let you know it without any reservations.

So... are you saying stalling is an acceptable tactic in a meaningful game?

    Yes I Believe So !!

Like we said before showcase is not about the coaches stall tactics it about how the girls perform on the field defensively and offensively. The coaches are observing mental and physical aspects of players. Is the kid coachable, is she aggressive enough, what kind of arm does she have, can she hit the ball, how does she respond to her team mates, is she a team player, is she willing to go the extra mile, etc............ now in a ASA State or National Tournaments play to win ,stall if you a have to ........ it is permissable..LOL...

I guess you didn't know that stalling is against the ASA rules.

    It's A Judgement Call...

Umpires have the authority to call it stalling or not...speeding is illegal to but everybody does it..:lach:---Guru.............. just like this cell phone law how you going to prove it ??? You are in a losing battle trying to defeat the Guru Baby....LOL.......

ASA has two rules in the book:

ASA 5-4-E which states, "A forfeited game shall be declared by the umpire in favor of the team not at fault in the following cases: If a team employs tactics noticeably designed to delay or to hasten the game." Pretty Harsh, but I imagine a warning might be invoked.

So again its a judgement call rarely happens though....
