    North Davidson Freshman

Jordan Ramsey is the only freshman listed on the varsity roster of North Davidson, the number one ranked team in the state. Ramsey is currently pitching and playing 3rd base for the JV squad but should get some mound time for the varsity before season's end.

it seems to me that most freshman make varsity based off early season practices and that the freshman that stay on varsity throughout the season are the ones we should discuss. sometimes it takes a tough choice by a coach to move down or bring up a player because that means risking public opinion

It doesn't risk public opinion.... A coach manages his players to A: develop younger players for the future, and B: win championships. We have a pretty good freshman on our roster. He is a pitcher. From time to time if he is not being used he will get the opportunity to play his position on the JV's and swing a bat. We only keep freshmen and sophomoes on the varsity if we know they will get significant playing time (Start). I really dont care about "public opinion" because the public does not know what's best for our team. We have a freshman catcher that will really be good but he is behind a pretty good catcher in his own right and I believe a legitimate college prospect. So this freshman catches every day on the jv and we may pull him up when we play on dates the JV's aren't. All evaluations before the season must be completed through practices (where he can be compared with existing players) and scrimmages.

    Great post Coach Evans

We do not look at kids as freshman sophs jrs or srs. Can you help us win at the varsity level now? If you can you will play varsity. If you can not you will play jv. If a freshman is on the varsity they are there to play and help us win. If they are not going to have a significant role then in my opinion they need to be on jv where they are getting innings. But if they are the best option on the varsity they need to be on the varsity getting innings. What anyone thinks outside our dugout is a non factor.
