hey guys with the season just a few days away i wanted to re-open this thread
any news on how freshman in the area are doing? some will be called on early in their careers to have impacts on varsity.
The Mecca 7 conference has loads of talent with players like mikal hill aj james nate cooper and michael russel in it. any of these i would not be shocked if they made and started on varsity

    2011 talent

Michael Elefante-Chapel Hill HS and Benton Moss-Rocky Mount HS both have live arms as freshman and will be on people's radars before the year is over.

    rumor has it...

    of the four mentioned above...

Mikal Hill will go straight to SS for Mallard Creek's Varsity, they don't have a senior class, but he'd start at SS for most schools, he's the real deal, already getting letters from D1's after a good showing and CBC coach/scout camp a month ago.

Heard AJ James hit one out and bounced several off the wall at his first "8 man" workouts at batting practice with new coach Jason Sarvis at Robinson High. It's Sarvis' first year and don't know his philosophy on freshmen starting on varsity.

Nate Cooper and Michael Russell are at much deeper programs. Coopers at North Meck. Russell goes to either Hopewell or North Meck. Nate could probably help North with his speed. Michael Russell has a smooth glove in the middle infield. Don't know if they'll go straight to varsity due to the depth of the programs they're at. They would be on varsity if at lower level schools. Both boys have competed at the highest level in AAU and USSSA.

A couple of other freshman in the Charlotte area that I know of are:

Grayson Atwood: Mount Pleasant...plenty of pop in his bat for the varsity level

Jake Fincher: Providence...smooth middle infeilder...so much depth at Providence it will be hard to get to varsity as a freshman.

Dillon May: Kannapolis...firey left hander pitcher...speedy base runner

Gunnar Hogan: Carson High... reliable powerful bat and very steady middle infielder.

    Mt. Pleasant Freshmen

Mt. Pleasant freshman Grayson Atwood hit a two run homer to straight away centerfield over the 365' sign in his first high school at bat. Freshman Brandon "B" Burris also added an rbi double as Mt. Pleasant defeated J.M. Robinson 4 -3.
